I went to a food bank today to pick up supplies for a vulnerable adult I support in my job. It was based in a church in an affluent part of the Borough I work in. The vicar told me that a neighbour in an adjacent house had called the police to ask that they 'dispurse the crowds'… 'crowds' that were being quiet, observing social distancing, and in many cases were facing the prospect of using a food bank for the first time in their lives, and having to take their small children with them. The police arrived and advised the vicar that the food bank would have to close if people didn't practice social distancing.

We cannot let this crisis create even more of a them and us mindset than brexit already has. For fucks sake people, have some humanity (a general observation not aimed at people here).

I have read at least 2 stories in France of health care workers being pressured out of their apartment by their neighbors who feared that they would bring the virus back into the building. (In one case, the pressure didn't work, but it very much was there.)

Grocery stores here have started implementing a social distancing policy by placing colored tape, 6 ft apart, on the floor to the checkout lanes. When I was in checkout some a-hole behind me decided to ignore this and was within 2 ft of me. I really wanted to lay into the guy for being a dick but I’m usually the non-confrontational type. Really chaps my ass when people have zero disregard for personal space, especially during this pandemic

Social distancing wasn't the issue here. People were very observant of it, not least because most were mums with young kids. It was more a frustration that someone contacted the police, most likely because there was a food bank where usually is not one.

I went to my local pharmacy that also has a post office. They are operating a one in one out policy that was working really well until one dickhead literally pushed past me at the door. The pharmacist asked to leave. He looked at me with daggers. I had my work ID on, else I would have said something stronger.

The staff at both places were awesome and we're running such efficient systems. They were being the best of what a crisis can bring out of people. While NHS staff are doing a sterling job, there are thousands of other front line staff just getting on with incredibly important jobs that don't get a second look. People working to support the homeless (some of the most vulnerable at this time) are doing incredible stuff, and really placing themselves at risk as most don't have PPE

Oh for sure, I was just speaking to your point about people being selfish a-holes

Welp, it’s a crapshoot in many respects anyway, I guess.

So a bunch of my coworkers have put together a group grocery list so we can all get what we need. We live across a section of Maryland that's maybe 35 miles apart. Because we live in different areas and go to the store at different times, there are restocks of different items. When we can get something for someone else, we let them know and we're going to get together on the weekend when the markets are crowded and exchange.
I'm able to get most of the meats and fresh vegetables at an Asian market not far from me but I can't get prepackaged foods.
One of my coworkers is able to get dog supplies for me.
One of my coworkers got me a couple cans of Spam (don't judge me).Someone got me a couple bottles of Drano (I don't know why the Drano is all gone, but I have a clog in the sink that I shave in that won't go away)
This is actually working out pretty well. I think we all got what we needed. I don't actually need anything as my fridge and freezer are fully stocked, but I'm happy to help out my friends and there are a couple of odds and ends that are "nice to haves."

Just sharing a strategy to those that are finding themselves surrounded by bare shelves.

It's been like that for about a week.  I had not seen it before as I was in hibernation self-isolation

In a lot of the supermarkets, they have a special hour for the elderly and key-workers, when no one else is allowed to shop.

Things on ration (that I noticed) today:

Tomato purée - 1 per person
Biscuits - 1 pack per person
                                            Beer - 4 per person
                                            Wine - 3 per person
