Coronavirus (Covid-19) Discussion

[I'm worried about Japan (no school closure so far and Olympics are still scheduled for this Summer).
[/quote]
I'm in Japan and actually had dinner with a teacher last night. All elementary and above state schools closed weeks ago. For fee-paying schools, closure is currently optional. So wherever you got your information from, it's wrong. Which highlights the problem of there being loads of bullshit and disinformation flying around…

Read this some where. Don't shoot me. If it is inappropriate, feel free to delete.
A pretty good description on the current grim situation."China's like that little kid at the playground who shat himself on top of the slide. Yes, he screwed up. He screwed up big. He tried to cover it up with a leaf, and when that failed he got his act together and cleaned up as best he could.
Now, the other Asian kids who went down the slide right after, they knew what's up. They had slid in shit before. They stopped using the slide and started cleaning themselves up.
The other little kids, though, even after they saw the shit at the top of the slide, the shit-covered Chinese kid sobbing as he cleaned up his mess with his own clothes, as well as the Asian kids frantically cleaning themselves at the bottom of the slide - they decided to go down the slide anyway.
The Iranian kid decided to go down face first. F. The European kids also had their go and are now shit smeared and crying at the bottom of the slide. Some other kids though, are running around the playground spreading shit to the swings and the see-saw.
At this point all the kids at the playground have some amount of shit on them. Some are sniffing around to see where the shit is on their clothes and are cleaning up appropriately. Others don't seem to care and continue to play.
The American kid though, is head-to-toes covered in shit and jumping around in the sandpit screaming, "It's just mud, guys!"

I don’t understand what is the big deal about the testing kits.
You have a fever, coughing, sneezing etc
You test positive: stay home, ride it out, there is no covid19 specific treatment
You test negative: stay home, ride it out….
I know, right? The amount of dumb we have around my town is insane. We have folks in isolation and quarantines and they show up at the workplace saying «sorry I was bored, had to get out and see people». Police are finally threatening with prison sentences for those that don’t get their shit correct.

Speaking of….I overheard a group of people talking about the virus and ways to prevent getting sick. One of them read on the internet that you should drink water every 15 minutes to flush the virus into your stomach. The acids in your stomach will kill the virus and you won’t get sick. Another replied how are you supposed to get any sleep...
I love people!!!

I largely agree and I've asked the same question. Two answers: (1) Presumably you would me more careful to maintain social distancing & to monitor your own situation if you have COVID-19 and (2) it's important to monitor overall numbers to better track the disease progression. The latter is probably a reason why the numbers are hard to compare from country to country.

I've kept away from this discussion as my wife and I work in the public sector, and our whole week has pretty much been taken away from our substantive roles, and moved to Covid 19 planning and delay.
This changes everything, new legislation is being planned, societal behaviours are changing. New legislation will change things hugely in future.
Stay safe and well, and importantly, don't forget we are a part of communities. Incidents like this can sadly elicit selfish responses sometimes.

Well said. Some of the ridiculous behaviour I’ve seen evidence of the last few days, locally, makes me fume. Shortsighted, selfish and stupid. Public health should be first priority for everyone. That is what willend this quicker for everyone.
On a more humourous note, there has been a bit of poorly executed «prepping» going on up my way. Panic buying struck the day the schools locked down. Not toilet paper, but butter and milk. Full fat, highly perishable butter and milk. There were also insane queues outside the wine monopoly [emoji1787]

We should always have been practicing social distancing with respiratory infections and I doubt people are getting upset because they want to contribute to the epidemiological data…
People think that the test is a cure...
What a bunch of imbeciles

I’d like to start hoarding IH gear. When the zombie apocalypse hits I wanna look good.

Been preaching that we are too dependent on others for years and people should have skills and ability to fix things, feed themselves and defend their families. Now that various systems are being taxed due to coronavirus, the same people who have looked at me like I’m a paranoid nut are asking me for tips.
Feels good
The thing about skills and abilities are that you carry them with you. If next year there is another pandemic, or a terrorist attack, or a natural disaster, the tactics change but the mindset and skills stay the same.

This is right on the money. I'm always surprised (and disgusted) by men who skip washing their hands after using the toilet, an action that should be a habit for a child.
