I have never experienced 'button pull, but I think that permex snaps fitted to UHFs gives the appearance of  button pull anyway, see the pics above. My reservations about buying workshirts in UHF are for the opposite to @neph93 , showing just how subjective these things are. I have always been concerned at how well catseye type buttons will hold in button holes with material this thick, and not pop out. Thats why I have always stuck with the snaps on westerns for UHF, and workshirts for chambray.

I have my first UHF workshirt arriving tomorrow, so I'll be able to give a better view of my comparative thoughts then.

I’m talking obvious gaps and fabric distortion as a result of the chest being too small. I think it happens regardless of snaps or buttons but I’d imagine snaps are likely to make it more pronounced as they are fixed, whereas the physics of buttons/buttonholes allow for more wiggle room.

Never had an issue with buttons on UHF’s with the exception of an acknowledged issue on a shirt from a number of years ago where all the shirts had slightly large holes and the buttons had a tendency come out. A hot wash fixed it.

Regarding sizing I think it's important to know your crucial areas and measurements. For me it's the shoulders. Anything below 19 is too tight and annoys me as it is too constricting. Unfortunately last year and this year the XL shoulders often were below 19" so I need to size up. And I agree on flannels better fitting a bit loose than like a dress shirt.

The 238 would have had better measurements for me but I prefer the snaps over buttons, unless there will be a UHF with metal buttons one day. The 170 is just glorious.

That’s the one. Wearing it right now in fact. My first, and probably favourite, flannel.

That is truly a fantastic shirt. I’ve considered asking to buy the aluminium buttons to upgrade my IHSH-225. Either that or go for some GA pimpage.

@neph93 I think that most of the western shirts I see have this "button pull" effect. In most of these pictures, I've noticed that the button pull effect on the shirts, even when they aren't on. Unless you're talking about something else. Like the button looks like it might burst any moment.  😃

I’m talking about clearly visible gaps horizontally between the placket and facing shirt body, and between each button vertically. It is caused when the shirt is too tight over the chest normally, but also over the belly or shoulders.

Personally I think if you are standing in a neutral position and you see that then the shirt doesn’t fit.

Large looks better.  i think someone already said this, but flannels are meant to be worn a bit looser.  thats just my opinion though.

I think @gaseousclay is correct, the large is right on the money. The medium looks a tad short and snug across the bottom opening. You’ll have some shrinkage allowance with the large, and it already looks great.

Looks pretty damn good to me. Arm length is good. Body length is perfect, shoulder seams are where they should be. Chest looks great. It looks fitted without being tight. As long as that is your thing I’d say you’re on to a winner.

Apologies, I missed off a paragraph somehow (cut and paste?).

The above referred to the medium but I went on to say that the large also looked good. A little roomier in the chest and shoulders which is no bad thing but a little too long in the arms.

                                            Two things:
                                            1. These will shrink in a warmer wash and may shrink a little with repeated washing on low temps. You haven’t got much to go on in the medium. The large will be perfect after a hot wash though (they shrink about half a size).

                                            2. How you will wear them is an important point. If you want room and layers and a relaxed fit then large is good. If you want fitted and only over a thin tee or A-shirt then medium is just fine.
