IHJ-71 - 18oz Selvedge Denim Type ll Jacket - Indigo
-
I’m looking around for a raw type 2,and this one ticks all the boxes, but the collar appears to be very small to me. :-\
-
@neph93 - I did indeed buy this, it is a fantastic jacket, been wearing it everyday! really looking forward to seeing it fade. This pic is the same jacket I wore preshrunk, now shrunk, and fits like a glove!
I saw Steve wearing it yesterday and he truly has a great fit on it. Was my first time seeing a type II for real and it is an eye-catching jacket.
There may be one in the future for me…

I'm seriously thinking of pulling the trigger on one of these tomorrow. I've been looking at type II for years now, love the style, but the cut has always been too boxy for my body type. This looks spot on…though the shoulder measurements worry me. My XXL 19 oz lefty has 20 inch shoulder, and they are on the limits of width for me, xxl type II adds an extra 1 inch to that.
Anyone got experience of other type II such as Full Count or Sugar Cane as a comparison? Just to make sure...
-
I tried on a Full Count type II today. IH has ruined me forever! The 13.75 oz denim felt lighter than the 12oz 33 shirt I was wearing. I decided to play safe…if it ain't broke don't try and fix it!

I hear you. With regards to IH type II’s I think availing yourself of IHUK’s wonderful customer service is a good idea. In my experience, the fit and cut of type III vs. II’s is so different that measurements aren’t very helpful. That being said going with your usual size is always a good place to start.

I went for my usual xxl but expecting some shrinkage. The sizing was roughly the same as my lefty, but the shoulders are about an inch broader on the type II.
I know there are some real FC fans out there, but the denim felt very papery to the touch. It was a great fit though.
I've gone for the XXL IH, and have ordered. The crew are helping with sizing on the 3 remaining, so as you rightly state, IH customer service is always by and beyond anyone else. If it is a goer when it arrives i'll put up some fit pics

How can I expect the 18oz raw to act judging by my pre soak fit pics?
It's going to shrink a bit
I'd say you need that in the shoulder, arms and to a lesser extent body (which is good because proportionally the arms and shoulders will shrink a little more than the body). The length looks good now, but I don't think the 1-1.5cm you'll loose is going to be a problem. How do you feel about the length?
-
@neph93 the length is good, I could lose a centimetre, 2 at most and still feel comfortable. I'm trying to judge using @Steve 's pre/post soak pics. His fits a dream after the soak and looks like a similar fit to mine pre soak from what I can see.
The pre/post soak measurements suggest that should and sleeve shrink is to be expected and seems to lose more than other measurements.
the XL has a 23 inch chest, that would probably be way too small pre soak given that my usual XL or XXL UHF chest measurement is 23.5 inches.
As far as what do I think of the jacket generally? if I was another denim workwear brand, frankly I'd be ashamed of myself. This ting is beautiful, such a great design, well executed as always. The finish is the usual overspec and damn I can tell that this 18oz raw is going to age amazingly with lots of evo promise!

That's always going to be the case with jackets, especially type I,II,II's as it's the longest length of fabric and shrinkage is proportional to length (as the bishop claimed in vain when the disappointed actress left the hotel in disgust).
I reckon you're on to a winner, and you're right the OG 18oz is beautiful stuff.

1 hr hot soak…here goes nothing!
I just turned the jacket inside out. The finish is just exceptionally good, the best of any IH jacket I own, and that is going some. You could wear this jacket inside out and get away with it, it's that good.
-
@Stuart.T - your pre-soak fit looks similar to mine, I found the wash helped the fit at the shoulders and top of the arms, didn't notice too much difference else where, which was perfect. I wear mine everyday now! The bottom button is tight to fit when first washed, but the denim is stretching now, so not a problem.
-
@Steve thanks buddy, that's reassuring, and what I suspected. Did you hot soak and then wash in machine or just hot soak at this stage?
To Quote from There's Something About Mary 'we've got a bleeder'. This gives up loads of beautiful indigo. Is it weird that I love that smell?
