Rich is having to attack from the inside to get the lintels in high enough, there is a wall plate (suspending the ceiling joists for the new room) in the way, if we cut below the plate, the doorway will not be tall enough.....
OMG handheld core drilling, dry I might add, while standing on a ladder. Holy shit that’s not fun.

Funnily enough, nothing can be done by these guys unless they follow the schedule of works written by their health and safety department, to the letter, but then they are allowed to do something like this on their own. Boggles the mind
I hear that. That’s why I got out of the business. The amount of paperwork and permits needed to do the work was unreal. But everybody has to eat I suppose. That order of operations creates jobs for Inspectors, engineers and everyone who works under them. But when they ain’t looking…. I’d demo a house in the middle of the night

It reminded me of a job I was on, a few years ago. A contractor I worked for had me dry core two 8" holes for HVAC piping in a local high school. While, I was supplied with a proper 8" dry core bit, a "proper" dry core drill was apparently not in the budget. Since the bit fit on a 9" grinder, that's what I was given. I was only coring through standard 8" masonry block, but it was an adventure, nonetheless. It took me twice the time, and I burned out the first of two grinders used. Thankfully, I incurred no injury, and I haven't had to work for that contractor again. Shame is, it probably cost the contractor more money, having me do it that way, but they likely didn't learn the lesson.
