I was thinking about picking up a pair of these in the sale. Is this the same 17oz material as the they other 17oz 555’s or something different? Never mind just found my answer.

Welcome and congratulations on your investment. Arctuates can be removed with a stitch ripper:

If you work slowly and carefully you can take them out without too much trouble and they will leave minimal damage behind them. A less invasive alternative would be one of these:

How’s “minimal damage” should I expect?

Well it is thread that is sewn in and through denim and you are cutting it out, so there will be evidence of it being removed. Even then there will only be small holes in the denim. I’d imagine you could see it close up, but not from a distance. It will become even less visible with wear and washing.
