@JimBobTTD  I think you should go XXL.  I'm an XL in the vast majority of IH shirts and I would go for an XXL in this one.

Based on the info supplied, this would also be my suggestion for you if I had to make one. Especially as my understanding is that you want to layer.

Thank you, kind people. I shall indeed be layering.

@neph93 I think you are right - the cuts of the two jackets are quite different.

And what do you know…XXL is in stock!

Sleeping on it has told me to hold on a bit. I am not an XXL person. In the product description, Alex is an XL and Giles is an L. Both gentlemen are taller and probably larger than I am. I think that Giles and I are about the same, but differing two sizes from him is unexpected.

I shall ask the missus to measure me.

As stated earlier I’m the same height but heavier than you and would go XL. I tend to go with Alex’s sizes, sometimes with Giles’. They’re both taller than us. I’m relatively wide in the upper body though and would struggle to get a hoodie under an XL comfortably.

Getting measured is a great idea. Worst case scenario you have to change it for another size. Nobody wants that, but it can happen.

Or make a road trip out of it and pop down to one one the stores in Germany or soon Vienna @JimBobTTD  🙂  I went last week and got to try on different sizes. Quite an adventure.

This is the kind of thing that I would have done in my younger days. The idea is still very tempting…

My mind is made up - it is this. I need this.

I am having a horrendous time trying to work out sizing, though. I have an ancient Levi's Trucker that I have measured (the Iron Heart way, as in the video) and it does not seem to make sense.

Shoulders 54cm, suggesting that an XXXL will be too small. If I measure it from shoulder to shoulder straight across, it is 48cm. With the buttons done up and my shoulders all the way back like a weirdo, it is just a touch tight.

Chest 62cm, again, so an XXXL will be too small. The jacket is quite large in the chest and I can layer a shirt and hoody (this is good) and have over 3" of space left.

Waist 54cm, so an XXL will be right

I wear a Levis M denim shirt but an Iron Heart XL fits me perfectly. 33-34" waist IH jeans. 40" suit jackets which are far too tight at the moment (I had an accident and an operation so I have not been able to do any exercise in 18 months) but normally are ok.

I am not a particularly muscular man, nor am I all that fat. At 6' and 86kg, I could do with losing quite a few kilos, that much I will admit, but I am not a large man by any stretch of the imagination. Yes, it is 10kg.

Sorry about the mixed measurements…I am an ex-pat Brit from the late 70s. So I think in inches, do not really understand them, and only have access to cm tape measurers.

I was also going crazy over the size until I finally decided on an M.

Thing is, when it comes to jackets, in my experience, you should be taking a P2P as a primary measurement work the rest of the fit from there. If the jacket fits in the chest, everything else should fall into place. Many tailors will tell you that a shoulder width isn't actually vitally important - some claim that it doesn't even exist as a measurement - which is something I kind of agree with. Shoulder width will affect the length of the sleeves but other than that, won't have considerable effect on the rest of the fit and the way the jacket feels on you. Well, as long as it's just a few centimeters of difference, of course. So I'd primarily make sure that the P2P fits.

The M that I got should've been spray-painted over me at a 21.something" chest but it's not. There's enough room for me to layer with a hoodie or something. And we're close in height and weight.

In any case, I really, really wouldn't recommend an XXL. I think you'd be swimming in it. L or maybe an XL should work just fine.

                        EDIT: grammar

@JimBobTTD, the bottom line is measurements are deceiving and you have to try it on to be sure.  I have an XXL 526PJ that fits perfectly.  I have an XXXL IHJ-69 that fits perfectly.  The measurements of the two jackets are very different.  I bought an IHSH-213 @Kentaurus last week in XXL.  I tried to fit into XXXL heavy flannels, but they were too small.

I'm about your size 5'11", 90Kgs (and need to lose a couple on the waist!), and I wear an XXL perfectly.  I'd stop wringing my hands and order an XXL and an XL.  Send back the one that doesn't fit.  Or keep one for layering and one for wearing with just a t-shirt.  You know, so you never have to be without it!!!  Trust me, you'll want to!  😉

I can upload a picture later, but I'm not home right now.

Here’s an XXL 526PJ - just purchased last month (I love this jacket  :)) — I returned the XXXL because it was too big all over.

Here’s an XXXL IHJ-69 corduroy in black — I returned the XXL because it was too tight in the chest and waist. Great jacket too!

The point is you need to try them on to be sure.
