I've just received a pair of 666 UHR having not been fully happy with the fit of my 634. I'm 6'1 with a 34 waist but pretty skinny legs so try as I might to style it out, the 634 just doesn't look great on me.

The 666 fresh from the pack fits perfect in the leg. Like best fitting jeans I think I've owned. However, I know a wash is recommended on new UHR. I'd rather not machine wash, mainly because in 15 years of wearing raw I've not managed to do a machine wash without getting vertical wash lines.

I also want to minimise any shape changes through shrinkage in the leg.

Is a cold soak adequate for UHR or do they need a warm machine wash?

      Thanks!

100% up to you.  A cold soak will not shrink the jeans fully, nor will the constructional stitching be bedded in, which could lead to constructional stitching failing earlier than otherwise.  But this denim is also the least unforgiving with regards to marbling wash lines (apart from the SBG).

You need to weigh up the pros and cons of what is important to you.

          Many thanks Giles,

I think I'd be keen to have the stitching properly bedded, one of my favourite aspects of the 634s I have is just how strong the stitching is. Even the non-repro brands I've worn over the years tend to fail very quickly at the pockets whereas my IH have remained rock solid.

What's the minimum temperature wash recommended to properly finish the fabric/stitching?

I think 40 degrees will do the job.

We just say a minimum of 40C, I would not go below 30C. But, the amount of agitation is more important than the temperature, basically the more the merrier.
