Howdy kind people. Been starting the quest for a great leather jacket. I can tell this is going to take some research and careful consideration!!! Research and data collection!! Two of my favorite aspects of this hobby!!

Didn’t see a thread on Aero Leather. Kinda surprised. Def seen some post with Aero though. What’s everyone’s thoughts on this company? My first high level leather jacket. I know there’s some great makers. Curious about y’all’s expertise with Aero. Looking at the Highwayman myself.

@Mizmazzle Aero makes good stuff as do most of the big names.  My advice is to search the classifieds on here and try out one that interests you.  Figure out what you like and don’t like about it and then keep it or resell it back on the forum.  I find most leather jackets retain their value quite well after the first initial hit from buying it new.  The secondary market is the best place to start in the leather jacket rabbit hole.

Then you can decide on fashion jackets, functional jackets, or a combination of the two.  IMO, Ironheart is really good at keeping the middle line of fashionable jackets that I would wear while riding a motorcycle.

Leather jackets are expensive and you don’t want to start out with something you don’t like.  It may save you some money in the long run.

That’s really good advice @goosehd ive been thinking the same myself. No need to spend $$$$ on something snd not be fully awe struck by it. Also, I think it’s hard to appreciate the details of really high quality items before experiencing something lower in scale.

The first question you have to ask is how and when are you going to wear it?

The Ironheart Pale Rider and Big Buck are great leather shirts. You can ride with them, but with the weather getting cooler may need something more substantial.  The IHJ-35 is a great jacket and definitely can wear more year round.  Sized to layer and you can wear it 3 seasons.  Size tighter and it looks great over a t-shirt but you won’t be able to wear it for as long depending on the weather.  The type 3 rough out and leather jackets from IH are awesome and very versatile if your looking in that direction.

Then you have to decide on the different leathers; cow, horse, Front Quarter Horse, etc.

I have jackets for all kinds of conditions and moods and it can get expensive very quickly.  Also can get into jackets with built in armour/padding for riding conditions. Not trying to steer you away from it, but let you know what you are getting into.

I definitely agree with the above info, but I’ll add the following.

-If you live in the US a new moderately customized Aero is is about $750.. due to the current dollar to pound exchange rates. It’s a great time to buy new.

-Aero have a ready to wear section with jackets and leather choices in many styles… definitely check that out.

** and there is a Big Buck deerskin shirt in XXL sitting in the buy sell section in mint condition at about half off

@Mizmazzle Thurston Bros. is who I bought one of my Aero jackets from.  Here’s a link to their “highway” models in stock. https://www.thurston-bros.com/search?q=Highway

Aero jackets are good quality and use great leathers, you can't go wrong with an Aero as a first jacket.

Fit is king with leather jackets so be sure to spend some time on looking at measurements and understanding different patterns.

@jiminstitches do I remember correctly, the your natural leather jacket was from Aero? The Highwayman, right?

I've not been able to shake my desire for similar from my head since seeing your pics, so have just messaged Aero about sizing on their Montgomery model.

                            Looking at this in Unfinished Horsehide;

                            image.png

Very similar to the Highwayman, but I love those unconcealed front pockets.

@T4920 a bit, it’s such a heavy jacket so it’s too warm for it at the moment, But as soon as Autumn comes it’s all I’ll be wearing!

I've been eyeing leather jackets too. Really like the aero hooch hauler. Schott tells me "this style won't work with you" when I enter my body specs. When I adjust my height down an inch I'm a XL lol. Considering the IH/Simmons Tailgunner but it's $$ and a few months off.
