Do people tend to wash their UHD straight away to getting the shrinkage out of the way, or wear untill a wash is needed and then shrink to fit?

@T4920 The recommended method with UHR is to soak first, then wash. This because it is loomstate. The soak activates the cotton fibres and embeds the stitching, the wash gets the shrinkage out.

Wearing the jeans and skipping the above step could/will lead to a very unhappy experience…

From my understanding it will cause premature wear and potentially cause a blowout.

@neph93 Did I get this right?

@goosehd yeah.. i saw the same thing the other day on my uhr 555’s great hairy beast haha! How is your UHR developing?

@Heavy_blue Slow progress as usual, but I am starting to see hints of electric blue in higher wear areas.  My previous experience with UHR was that it seemed to take forever and then one day they just looked amazing.

Absolutely. The UHR is loomstate. No processes have been performed on it. This means that the constructional stitching is not embedded into the fabric and can pop out. In addition the fabric is so dry and stiff that creases will be very sharp and abrasive and can tear.

Soaking AND an initial wash are necessary to embed the stitching and finesse the fabric. Shrinking is a by product of this.

Thanks for the info. Currently rocking a pair of 666 SBGs and am torn between a pair of UHR 666s and pair of 19oz Lefty 555s to add a pair of indigo heavyweights to my collection. My SBGs measure 34.5 in the waist and 35.4 in the inseam, and are just slightly too long (even with a chunky Japanese cuff) and little loose around the waist. If the size 34/36 UHR 666s shrink as advertised (an inch in the waist and two in the inseam) I feel like they'd be the literal perfect pair of jeans for me as I'm in love with the 666 cut, but I'm conscious of the fact that expected shrinkage isn't an exact art… If you could share your wisdom on the subject I'd be tres grateful [emoji1374]

If you want to end up with a 34 waist then get a pair that starts at or just under 34” when new. Pretty much no one gets 2” in the inseam. That is a theoretical maximum.

So that accounts for initial shrinkage and the stretching back out with wear?

@T4920  The shrinkage in the waist is temporary. If you normally wear a 33 inch waist with a 33 inch measurement you should buy that size.  Yes the UHR's shrink, but the waist will stretch back out under constant tension.

Hello fellas, new to the forum and this is my first post so cheers to you all  😉
I have fallen in love with this brand and it is my absolute ride or die now.  Just picked up my firs pair of the 21/23 Raw jeans in the 634's…. I have been all over the map trying to decide how to soak, wash, warm, cold and so on.  I settled with two separate 2 hour soaks and a delicate cycle on cold in the front load washer then hang dry.. I hope this works, I am anxious about the waist shrinking..  I will report back but for the veterans any thoughts on this method.  Oh and one last thing and this may be ludicrous but in my head it made sense, I put a bit of hair conditioner in as a mild lubricant and to add some "moisture" I don't think it'll hurt anything.  Any feedback is welcome.

Soaking and washing is mandatory for this pair so you did nothing wrong with that. For as long as you took the waist-size you were looking for i wouldn’t be that afraid for the shrinkage. Waist will stretch back to pre soak dimensions. For the hair conditioner, i would skip that part the next time 🙂 soaking/washing is more for the agitation of the denim to settle the threads etc. let them dry, pull them on show the fit here as you like and rock them hard! Enjoy them and cheers.
