Giles is off to Morocco Chasing Blue Fin Tuna Again - Sept 2022
-
It is….
Our typical day means getting up at 04:00, catching flying fish in nets and then fishing with those as bait until a little after sun-up. Repair back to base for breakfast and then back out with lures for the rest of the day. The Tuna are hunting shoals of flying fish, and it is not worth casting unless we can see Tuna busting the surface and be near enough to get a lure close enough. Sometimes we'll spend most of the day in the cafe waiting for fish to show, other days we are chasing shoals for 8 hours.....Any fish we catch go into the village cold store, get auctioned off by a government-appointed auctioneer every evening, and count towards the village's Tuna quota for the year.
