Is this the same fabric that's used for the blue serge shirt?  'Cause that's my favorite.  Inquiring minds would love to know.

Yes, I just confused those.  My bad.  Thanks for the clarification.

Did you guys take your normal Iron Heart size in this?  I only own one other IH top (western chambray) and the chest is almost a full inch bigger on this one, on the same size.

They came up a little big. I did size down, from XL to L, but be sure to consider length and shoulder measurements too. The shoulders ended up being a little trim on mine.

Me too, I did size down. I am typically an L in all IH shirts but wear M in this one. In general, I size down on the „stiffer“ shirts.

I’m aware it’s listed as “little to no shrinkage”, but has anyone successfully attempted to get a little shrinkage from this material? If so, did the shirt suffer any unwanted marking as a result?

I own the work shirt and love it, but could afford afford a little shrinkage to trim it up.

Many twill cotton materials will shrink with the right treatment. Agitation and heat are key. However this is sulphur dyed and does fade quickly, so abrasion marks are a definite risk.

If you decide to go for it use a 60C machine wash with very low or no spin and thoroughly soak the shirt before putting it in. I would suggest  avoiding the drier the first time.

If that doesn’t work then try the same wash plus drier, or a 90C wash.

For clarity, I’ve not tried this with this material, but that is what I’ve done with wabash earlier with good results. I can’t shrinkage or that you escape marbling/abrasion lines.

Thank you very much! The shirt is due a wash and thought it might be worth giving it a go. I am concerned with causing white marks, don’t want to f**k the shirt up. If I go ahead, I’ll document it on the forum.

I only washed it twice so far. Cold wash, delicate circle, no spin and hang dry. It didn’t shrink at all but it fades, which i like. But it didn’t leave white marks or whatsoever.
I would do as suggested by Neph. Wash it warm and if shrinkage is not to your liking wash it a) warmer or put it in the drier.

When I say «abrasion lines» I’m talking about this white marks. They are a possibility. Soaking the shirt before washing and ising low to no spin will mitigate the risk.

Actually I should echo this… as it is exactly my experience.  It suggests that low to no spin will not give those dreaded lines (a drier might).

Great, thanks both. It’s washing now, my machine has no option for no spin so it’s on the lowest setting possible . Little anxious, but will see how it goes!

Don’t worry, it will be fine. I can’t imagine of anything that could make this shirt look terrible. It’s amazing and wear it a lot.
