I feel like the polyurethane doesn’t really give more than about a quarter inch worth of stretch for movement. My 888 has a comparable thigh measurement to what I would already wear. It’s a nice close fit when at rest. The difference is when I move, it’s way easier.

I know that’s not really the precise answer you’re looking for. But what I’m getting at is that I think it wouldn’t be that comfortable to rely on this fabric to get a “skinny” fit.

Thanks, Ann, that actually does help!

I saw that you picked these up in the 888 cut.  Did you size down in them or stick with your usual 888 size?

Usual size. Which is at this point 38. I have worn a 36 in 888s in the past, and I think those would probably fit because of the stretch, but wouldn’t be comfortable.

They look really flattering on you!  If they're comfortable and look good, you can't do better than that 🙂

Thanks so much for all of the info!

                @Paul9221:

Could I go down to a thigh size of, say, 11.7" in these?  Would those stretch to 12.25"?

Half an inch is probably too big of an ask. I agree with @sabergirl that the jean doesn’t have that much stretch in them initially. You’ll end up with sausage thighs for the first few months.

The thing with this denim is that the stretch from the twill and the stretch from the polyeurathane doesn’t stack. You get the polyeurathane stretch first, making the denim more comfortable and wearable, while the more permanent twill stretch kicks in after wear and washing, when the polyeurathane starts to lose its elasticity.

One thing to consider it sizing up in the 777. I would size one or two up on the 777 compared to the 888 in order to tackle the lower rise of the 777. This may give you the extra thigh space you need.

Thanks for chiming in, Reuben!  And thanks for giving me the right word for this – "twill stretch"!

Based on yours and Ann's feedback, I'll probably stick with the 888 cut and probably hold off on the SST for now.  I just picked up a couple of pair of 888 so I really don't need another pair of 888.  I was only considering another pair if it was in a different cut, but if I size up enough to get the thigh to work, the waist is too large.

And with these 502ib that just got announced... 😃

                  Thanks again, you two!

Loving it so far. I was wearing my 666S-16’s most of the summer but I’ve been back in these for a couple weeks, and they’ll be my only (non-job) pair until 25oz season comes.

So I just ordered these as my first pair of ironheart jeans. The dimensions for them are perfect as is for the 38. I measured my fav pair of jeans and they are 36” that tape out to 37” which means the ones I ordered will be spot on.
So my question is this: it says that they will stretch out up to 1” which would be too big so to offset tht has anyone tried washing and drying hot to shrink them back and hve good results? Do they actual stretch out that much? Or should I order the 36 which tapes out at 35.2 and with the stretch would be good. I would just be vary of shrinking them.
                            Please help

They don’t shrink. You could wash them at 90C and all you would do is destroy the torque in the elastic in which case they would stretch an awful lot very quickly.

If you can do the thighs on the W36 I’d go for that or take a look at the 555 dims. The SST denim will stretch an inch at least.

I messaged about the 555 sst and asked if it would be restocked and they said no - even tho it says continuous production

Things change… I wonder if the restocks are extra stock from Japan made during the first run. The decision may have been taken not to make a second run.

The 666 in this denim would be my preferred choice. The thigh is just too toight for me though.

Do a search for «Shinayaka» on the forum and you’ll find my blog thread. I got to thrash tje sample pair of 555’s. You can read about exactly what happened there.

Short answer is yes they really do, but not like regular 21oz.

I'd say so. I didn't take measurements but I gotta pull my pants up if I don't wear my belt tight enough and when I got them I had to suck in to button the top initially.
