My little one got a bit homesick, so we basically rushed through Finland.

Also beautiful, VERY many forests and lakes, great people (exhibit A: all films by Aki Kaurismäki)

        lots of Rudolphs crossing

And everywhere (also in Norway) this beautiful plant. Does anyone know its name?

Now we are crossing the Baltic sea on a ferry (Naantali to Kapellskär) through the 10000 or so skerries. Reminds me of Saltkråkan.

@endo  Thank you for sharing your trip with us!  It reminds me of a camping/road trip from my youth (touring the Upper Peninsula of Michigan) with my dad.

I too became homesick and the trip was cut short/rushed towards the end.  I would give anything to be able to go back and spend that time over with him as it is now one of my most cherished childhood memories and I am sure this trip will be one of your son's too.

Enjoy and thanks again for sharing!

thanks @goosehd . These childhood memories are so precious. I have the same, my parents took me through southern Europe in the 70s in an orange T2 Volkswagen bus. My son (and his three elder siblings) will hopefully pass this on one day …

«Geitrams» in Norwegian, «fireweed» in the US, «bombweed» colloquially in the UK (interesting story) and in Latin:

I’m staying in the high pastures in the mountains outside of Ålesund, and there is a cabin down the road that literally has a roof full of it:

Hey, this just to let you know that my son and I had a safe return home. It really was a wonderful trip: more than 6000 km in 15 days, 14 nights of which we spent only 4 on campgrounds and all others in pure nature, easy with a camping bus in scandinavia. Highlights were the night under a clear sky and stars on Preikestolen, meeting Reuben and Ingrid in Bodø, cruising the Lofoten and adjacent isles, and reaching the Nordkapp. But now we are also happy to be back home. Memories will stay. Thanks for accompanying us.

Glad to hear you are safely home. What a wonderful trip… I’ll be sure not to let the Norwegian tourist board know that meeting Ingrid is comparable to reaching Nordkapp. We don’t want convoys of camping vans stopping outside out house [emoji1]

cheers @Chap . It's absolutely worth it, still a lot of km - even more from Austria. A way of saving 3-4 days of driving in each direction could also be flying up to wherever you want to start and rent a camper there.

Yeah thought about that option… but I would love to have my dog with me. There once was a night-train carrying cars from Vienna to Hamburg... hope it will come back next year.

Last day of our trip through the Baviran part of the Rhoen, we hiked around the mountain Kreuzberg (900m).
Not the center of the Dark Sky Reserve Rhoen, but we expected to see some stars without rain there ….

                                        … it definitely was a nice bed @Giles  ⛎.

Temperature went down from 19C to 10C.
There was always a small breath uphill, followed next morning by a cloud cover.
Normally I stuff the backpack into the Bivicover from MacPac, which is long enough for rough situations, but it was not necessary this time….

Highlight was the tree I was sleeping under! Always acting to the weather and making a beautiful noise!

Rest of the story here. MRMF
