@henry_david yep that's the one! It's very comfy indeed, thick and warm but nicely not too bulky or anything. Reminds me of a Filson vintage flannel but just a little heavier and softer.

Oh and you've definitely got me eyeing that crew now 😃

Forgot to mention I have a Nudie crew that I've been wearing for several years and really love it. It's grey but kind of a twinge oatmeal, really nice color. Not as wild comfy as the RMC stuff but nonetheless great.

This ^ Strike Gold hoodie is a favourite of both mine and the Mrs which means that I don't always get to wear it 🙂

@henry_david yes the Merz feels great on. I went for a size 5/M but as yet I haven't soaked it. I noted @Appfaff's advice regarding shrinkage and the 5/M can easily accommodate this and still fit me well in the arms.

Ah man now I need to look into SG stuff @den1mhead. I have a few oversized sweatshirts from an L.A. brand called General Admission that my wife happens to love. Seems like she wears them more than I do…

General loopwheel related question: have any of you re-brushed the inside of one of your fuzzy-interior sweatshirts after washing? I generally go for as long as I can without washing because they're so comfortable new, but I recently washed a 3Sixteen sweat because it got to be pretty disgusting after being the thing I wore during our 7 days of no power and water ice storm, haha.

But yep, the inside has lost a good bit of its fluff, much like a UHF kinda loses its softness after a wash. I'd like to get it back if there's a way. Seems like the dryer would do it, but I don't wanna try that for obvious reasons.

@popvulture – I recently cold-washed my RMC zip and then let it air dry. The fluffy nature of it was much as when new. Perhaps @den1mhead has some experience with his Merz, etc.?

The Strike Gold sweatshirts are just out of this world.  That fleece is SO soft!  Earlier this year, I picked up some Buzz Rickson sweatshirts from Self Edge (navy and olive).  They're a bit lighter weight but perfect for layering.  I wanted to pick up the black TSG from Self Edge but they ran out, so I tried to get the black Buzz Rickson, but they ran out of that, too!  So, I ended up going with The Real McCoy's black sweatshirt with brown stitching from Standard & Strange.  Just a really beautiful piece that fits a little big but made an awesome addition to the wardrobe.

                          Gents,

I am extremely in need of guidance in this department.

I have wanted to get into loopwheeled fabrics for a long time, but sizing complications have given me pause.  The current trend of cutting mens knitwear - to include sweaters - like minidresses further complicates things.

With long limbs relative to a shorter torso, I am basically the inverse of the Japanese fit: a 25" torso with 19" shoulder + 26.5" sleeve seems to relegate me to very few options…

The Stevenson pieces are cut short in the body, as are some of the older IH items, and the Buzz stuff appears to be middle ground (as are the newer IH offerings).  So many of the other brands - TSG, RMC, Merz, Warehouse, and SDA as a prime example - are sadly unwearable for me because of the horror-show length-to-arm ratios.

Due to the low tension in the knit, do most loopwheeled fabrics tend to shrink dramatically with hot washing, and/or stretch significantly with wear?  Or primarily only those that are raw?

Thusly, how malleable should I consider any given set of measurements to be?

Any brands I am overlooking that might help address my sizing dilemma?

Well, I have the 9oz loopwheel raglan sweatshirt from RMC in size large:

The dims are accurate as listed on S&S's site. I happen to be 6'6" with a 19.5" chest (or so) and need 26" to 27" in the arms and about 25" front length. I don't buy Merz because that stuff always shrinks up on me (others have had better experiences here) however RMC holds its shape/stretches out a bit and then snaps back after a warm wash and warm tumble dry. I never wash anything of mine in hot water (especially since I'm in the U.S. and machines here are especially harsh on clothing).

I buy RMC with the measurements slightly over my own and have done well there (I have the above raglan sweatshirt and a heavy zip hoodie, too). What size have you worn in RMC before, @Chain$titch? Or other brands? Have you tried them on?

I'm several inches shorter, and need several more inches in the chest, but we're in the same boat as far as arm length and torso length.

I was looking at that 9oz. RMC, actually, but the torso appeared to be a couple of inches too long, and the sleeves a couple too short.

I have had a heavyweight Ballpark zippered hoodie in XL and a doubleface RMC pullover hoodie in the same size, both of which were too large/baggy/long in the body.

Once upon a time, a size 42 Warehouse with freedom sleeves at Blue in Green fit me to perfection, but I failed to purchase, and they changed the sizing on subsequent runs.

I tried on various options at Self Edge once upon a time - SDA, TSG, et al. - but all were far too long on me.

Hmm. I'd suggest copping a large in that just to see if it'd work for you (S&S has a good return policy). I bought the XL in the hoodie as I assumed that I would need the length and other dimensions however the large would have been just fine. That's why the crew is a large.

Hey @Chain$titch what size do you usually go with IH?  Do you have a UHF, western, workshirt, or jacket that fits just right?

I've got a 40" chest and am 5'10".  The IH stuff tends to be a little long in the sleeve if the chest fits; I'm kinda in between a medium and a large.  Getting a large and hot-washing it, or getting OD, usually fits perfectly.

I'll echo what @henry_david said about RMC.  I've got a few of them that I picked up from Standard & Strange that I really like.  Matter-o-fact, I'm warm-washing the olive green one right now, to try to get a little shrink on it (it's a large).

My favorite has been The Strike Gold's heavy loopwheeled sweatshirt that I posted at the very head of this thread.  That one required me to hot soak and machine dry to get just right.  It's a little nerve-wracking but the fit and comfort is worth it in the end.

I have a loop wheel sweat shirt from The Strike Gold (purchased at SELA size L - now I think I’d size XL) that has shrunk pretty significantly, almost a size. If you’re looking for an old school style of sweatshirt, they are very hearty, warm, and fairly windproof.  Since I use this as an under layer for shirts and jackets the shrink isn’t a big deal, but it does mean I need to tuck in my undershirt because it’ll ride up if I don’t. I also have an IH Gray Marl hoodie. I’ve noticed it stretches with wear and shrinks back up with a wash. I sized down to M (usually take L and XL in IH gear) and it is also used as an under layer. The Strike Gold is more beefy (also no zipper or hood) but I pick up my IH more because of the ease of wear. But if I need to go out on a snow/ice hike. It’s TSG all the way. It’s perfect with the J-38 (primaloft) to pretty much anything that’s not 10 degrees F or below. Then I need to upgrade to Canada Goose. Hope this helps in your journey

@Paul9221 I'm usually an XL in IH outerwear, which is primarily what I own from the brand.  (I'm not a western guy, and the work shirts are too squarely cut and long for my build in that size.)

The RMC stuff is amazing quality, but their jackets and knits are all a bit too long and square in the body, and a bit too short in the arms.

Do you know how much your Strike Gold shrank, out of curiosity?

                                      @Fadez:

I run hot and live in a mild 4-seasons climate, so I tend to prefer lighter weight stuff that breathes and moves well.

If you put it on, and it technically works but feels a bit baggy, you're going to love the fit after a short hot soak and tumble dry.

Yeah the idea of a raw option for fitment purposes is intriguing, but something in the 9-12oz. range is probably preferable for me.

Do folks find that that their loopwheel sleeves tend to stretch?
