Nice looking train depot.

The town was huge in its day apparently.  Short lived though.  It went from a population of about 8000 to 14 after the gold mining dried up.

Made it to a couple of Star Wars spots today.  The sand dunes and Golden Canyon were used for scenes on Tatooine.  Please disregard the significance of these references if you have no interest in SW.  The places hold up on their own.  I guess.

We also checked out a giant crater created by a volcanic like explosion.  The surrounding area of about 6 miles is covered in black rock from the explosion…

Valley of Fire State Park in Nevada.  Totally gorgeous. It’s an extremely competitive first come first serve campground that is very highly rated.  We got the last spot today! 

There’s so much cool stuff to see here.  Can’t wait to get started.

Harrowing 7 hour drive yesterday from Valley of Fire in Overton Nevada to Dead Horse Ranch in Cottonwood Arizona.  Bumpy road all the way.  Several near misses from questionably trained drivers.  The grande finale being a trip up then down a scenic mountain road my 30’ trailer had no business being on but my gps failed to identify properly.  We’re here now and grateful.  Lots of great stuff here.  Several National Forests to explore and the towns of Cottonwood, Jerome and Sedona.

Katie and I have been thinking lately about finding a place to settle. The Airstream market is about as good as it’s going to get roughy now so selling the trailer sooner rather than later would likely put us on top.  Also, getting the kids back in school would be nice.

Anyone live in or near Northern New Mexico?  Seems like the housing market, job market and general aesthetic might fit us, not to mention the mild weather.  We won’t be there for a bit but our realtor back home knows someone in Albuquerque we can talk to.
