The long exposure makes a lot of sense…

I too would not want a tripod and try to set the picture up, as I enjoy being in the moment.  It gives me the ability to change my focus/perspective quickly…

…prettiest sunrise I’ve ever witnessed was driving through Mt. Rainier National Park at sunrise.  Those colours, clouds, snow, mountains, and spring flowers.  I stopped the car and just set there to take it all in.

@Jett129 This is the only tripod I own and it’s fantastic.  Extremely well built but light enough to throw in the camera bag.  It will easily handle our Canon 5D with some of the heavier (shorter Focal Length) lenses.

It's one of those things where I really don't like to use a tripod, but occasionally need one and it's great for those instances.  Family pictures on a timer and it's ace and could be handy in those tricky pictures.

I appreciate the advice on the longer exposure and may try that this fall winter when the evening and morning skies really starts to play it's magic.

I said it a while ago, but the Leica fixed focal is my favourite camera because it makes me work for the picture, but the Canon is the goto for my outdoor nature shots.  Also can't lie to say that the iPhone has made taking off the cuff pictures a lot easier and more convenient.

That’s one nifty tripod right there. I love my big Rollei Carbon, but sometimes it’s just way too bulky.

Big fan of your street photography especially the last shot which I pretend cropped a little to focus on what interested me the most. Not really sure it’s better. Just a matter of personal preference.

                          Great shots, @Jett129 👍🏽

I totally understand how you cropped the pic of the mom
With her daughter. Definitely emphasizes the main subject.

I don’t know why exactly, but I’m heavily preferring portrait format over landscape lately. Gen smartphone??
That’s part of the reason I didn’t crop any further and quite like the result.

Candid shots of some devils in a local bar. Canon R5 w/ EF 50mm F/1.2 L. Taken at F/3.2, 1600 ISO. 1/60s on the first one, 1/80s on the second.
I took the mirrorless plunge! Upgraded from my venerable 5D Mk. III (which I'd bought new all the way back in 2014!) to an R5, because they're a lot cheaper here. It's a very different beast for sure, but I love it to bits. Cannot recommend it highly enough, if you're able to throw that kind of money at a camera.

This last one is not my picture, but it is a picture of me (plus a few others) that I think turned out pretty good. Our attached ComCam guy took this picture of me 'popping my cherry' during a recent training evolution. I'm manning the #1 position, pulling the lanyard. Metadata says Canon R6 with an EF 24-105mm F/4L at 24mm, F/4, ISO 640, 1/8000s. Identifying patches/insignia have been obscured, for obvious reasons.

Really cool shots. Would love to switch over to mirrorless, but I don’t see that happening anytime soon. Have a 5D Mark 3 and 4,which are both really great. Some surfing pics from last weekend.

I already posted in the party thread, but figured it’d make sense to post here to, as some of you might not be following along over there and still be interested.
So here’s some of my favorite shots from last weekend.

                                  All on my XT4 + 23mm 1.4 / 56mm 1.2
So glad I took the 56 with me.. It’s just made for outdoor candid portraits.

*Holy cow… Sorry for the flood of pics here. I’m obviously not the best at making decisions 😅

@weftyarn appreciate it, man. The 50 has been with me since like 2015-16, and to this day it's my favorite camera-related purchase.

Beautiful bokeh on the party photos. The colors give it all a very dream-y feeling. How do you like the Fuji rig, by the by? I've been a full-frame Canon man since day 1… I had no idea APS-C had come far enough to get pictures like that.

@Jestocost I absolutely love my Fuji kit! Transitioned from a Sony A6000 about two years ago, so I never shot anything but APSC and can’t really tell the difference to Full Frame from first hand experience.

I can tell though, that with the right lens, awesome Bokeh can be achieved!!

Some of the lenses I’ve used that can achieve absolutely gorgeous Bokeh:

                                          Fuji 23mm 1.4
                                          Fuji 35mm 1.4
                                          Samyang 35mm 1.2 (Manual)
                                          Samyang 50mm 1.2 (Manual)
                                          Fuji 56mm 1.2

The Fuji 90mm 2.0 is an absolute stunner, too. But very expensive considering the limited versatility with that focal length. Here’s some sample shots I found online:

                                          Use it or lose it.
