Correcting a shameful failing on my part. I’ve passed one of their taprooms several times a week for ages but have so far not tried anything. Putting it right this evening.

@ARNC if I remember correctly you are a wine guy… I feel like we have lead you down a dark and dangerous path. Awesome.

Usually wine or gin or rye based cocktails. I usually only drink beer in Munich but I haven’t been for ages (for obvious reasons). Thanks for leading me astray  😃

I have a few things lined up for the next UHHH, assuming the timing works out for me.

Since it's Friday evening here, I'll post what I'm drinking.

I could do one of those…

I’m on a TIPA trip. Not good for me. Same strength as impy stouts but impossible to sip.

HUGE shout to Pomona Island for referencing War of the Worlds….

@Seul As the others have pointed out, and you being the resident connoisseur:  Can you tell us what makes a good beer great?  I’m sure most of us have had bad beers and a few horrible ones, but I can only guess what some of your beers have tasted like.

Is it flavours, carbonation, rarity?  Is it like a good wine or dram of scotch?

              I feel like I’m missing out…

Maybe you should offer tours based on beer for us deprived souls.

Really appreciate your help and insights!

@goosehd I really think that’s kind of subjective as a great beer to me,might be something that you would spit out. I think we all have certain mental checklists when it comes to beer, and when you get a beer that checks all those boxes…BOOM. Having said that, for whatever reason,I absolutely cannot drink IPAs. I’ve tried and tried. So you could give me the best one and I’d pour it down the drain. But whenever anyone here puts up a stout or porter,I generally think, based on what people post, that if I could get it I would like it. Sorry for rambling.

@Jett129 It makes perfect sense and it’s not rambling.

Tastes are all subjective.  I’ll never be able to taste a wine and tell you where it’s from, what year it is, or the guy who picked it.  On occasion I’ve had a wine, scotch, or cognac that has blown me away.  Sadly, I’ve never had a beer that has done the same for me.

I see all of your postings about beer and hope to one day experience that feeling with beer.  I have ones I’ve liked and ones that I tend to go to, but would just once have a great beer.

Now I’m rambling and hope I make a little sense.

Off topic:  thanks for the Buddy Rich/Lewis post!  I thoroughly enjoyed it.  Always loved him (Rich) and enjoyed the antics of Lewis.

Was at the brewery today to pick up some stouts and everyone on line,in front of me was getting and or talking about this. After being assured that it wasn’t toooo hoppy,I decided to give it a go. Hated it. Oh well.

I think the most interesting beer I had this year, was a coffee DIPA… Brasilian piece of work... Absolutely astonishing... Mate you can fucking wake me up any time of the day for a good cup of Joe, and if you add a DIPA to it... I'll be close to purring  😉

What I like in a beer?.. Summat new, perhaps?.. Am I the only one who's growing tired of beers that are too sweet?.. I've found myself going for more "ordinary" stouts recently... Fuck me: barrel age 'm on anything and everything, but hold the multitude of sweet adds, please and thank you...

But it is so subjective, of course, as my main squeeze Jett29 pointed out... Mind you: he doesn't know he's my main squeeze and might be filing a report as we speak...

Whether or not beer has blown my (tiny) mind this year?.. Yeah... It has... On many, many occassions... And it's why I'll stick to this hobby (called alcoholism) for another year... I'm not at a position to both indulge in wine and beer financially, unfortunately, because I do love me some of the red Frenchies; but I can honestly tell you that wine has dissapointed me easily tenfold of how much beer has...

                          But it is subjective...

                          And I'm tired...

Although I love this language, I will just stick to posting some pictures for now... Lemme have an espresso, and I might add to this... Let's ramble!.. Let's all ramble!.. I love a good free-flow ramble...

Seul I really enjoyed reading your recent posts. I agree with you about sweet beers. I have been staying away from almost all beer with adjuncts. Not drinking any more fruited sours or milkshake IPAs.
There is something about the way a beer looks in a glass that resonates with me. That Pinot Gris Tilquin looks amazing.
This was a solid IPA from Black Flag

@Joberwocky It was good (and I guess an inevitable choice for that particular brewery). I don’t really have any beer flavour comparisons but it made me think of Ferrero Rocher and Kahlua (although the stout didn’t have anything like the same level of coffee flavours).
