Yeah, I forget that there are vastly different laws/attitudes in the UK. The US is … rather permissive both with knives and guns. I started carrying pocket knifes when I was 8/9 and flew with knives until 9/11 stopped me from continuing to do so.

We can carry knives within certain parameters (think Ive laid out the rules before chatting to you?), but a large sebenza does not fit into them unless you have good reason to carry it (for example on the way to from a construction site where we end up doing a fair bit of cutting sometimes) which I didnt in this instance. I suppose a big point on this is that it was boun
cers and not the police who took it off me. They probably should have handed it over to the police and I could have gone with my tail between my legs, explained myself and collected it (or not). No doubt one of the bouncers or the landlord has it in their pocket right now

I would for sure be more upset about losing the knife than being barred from.the pub @LewisStonehouse

Ugh I hate to hear that @LewisStonehouse I admire your attitude about it though; I think I'd let it bother me more, which isn't a good thing.

To me, there are countless reasons that justify carrying a knife. It's not like a firearm; it's a tool with ubiquitous uses that don't involve harming others. I would be curious to see whether the regulations impacted the number of knife attacks. My understanding is that they are typically using kitchen knives. Terrorists used box cutters on 9-11. A folding knife just seems like an odd thing to prohibit by law.

Going to Red Rocks recently for a show I got to security with my cheap (but awesome) Land thumb-stud folding liner lock blade. I'd completely forgotten I had it. I told security I would stash it back in the car and headed down the stairs. Ultimately, I just tossed it behind a rock at the base of the stairs and retrieved it after the show to save time walking back to the car. Being out $20 or so should I have lost the blade was a liberating feeling and I now almost never carry my fancier blades.

I once did something similar with a Sebenza at a hockey game and I was fretting about the blade on and off until I retrieved it. CRKs aren't safe queens, they're meant to be used. But they are expensive enough for me to worry about them in those situations, which come without warning. And I am such a habitual blade carrier that I easily forget. So it is safer for me to carry cheap.

            Think it, be it.

Cheers fellas. It's the law of the land, I had a mental lapse and it cost me, fair cop. It's annoying and lacking pragmatism but to be fair if I saw a bloke walking around the pub with a whopping great knife in his back pocket I may feel uneasy too

Doubly so if he wore bibs. Bib-wearers are scary mf’ers. Anyone wearing bibs obviously has anarchic tendencies and are liable to do whatever tf they like at any given time. Throw a knife into that mix and you’ve got a recipe for chaos, mayhem and emergency first-aid.

                      That's complete bs, @LewisStonehouse  😢

Not only did they take it, but they barred you, too? Jesus. Sorry to hear that. I'd be bummed if I had a $$$ knife (like a CR) on me and that happened.

One of those buddy, I don't mind being barred particularly, plenty of other watering holes. And I guess there is a problem with knife crime in this country. I just think it's obvious ish I'm 'not the type', but it was my bad at the end of the day. I had no good reason to have a great big locking knife in the pub, and being dosey isnt an excuse. Bit of a wounder though for sure.

                      Uk be different

I know my initial impression of the Mikov knife was less than stellar. But I tuned the spring slightly and oiled it up with some gun oil and now the knife is arguably my favorite ever. It's perfectly balanced and the blade fires with authority now.

New Benchmade Tengu in the house. I resisted this guy for a long time because my mini Osbourne & CRK Sebenza/ Impinda are my go-tos but will power be damned. Smooth as a pebble, fires open like a cannon, and the lock sound like a Mercedes door. Really blown away tbh!

                            And the Osbourne

@Anesthetist  Really nice looking knives. Had no idea there was a mini version of the Osborne.  It seems to be a perfect edc size. Now I’m convinced I need one 🤦🏻‍♂️  and this forum is hard on my wallet.

Ingrid’s oldest is going off to do his obligatory year of national service in the military soon, and before he leaves he has a birthday.

I’m going to buy him a multi tool and I’m researching which will be a good buy.

I’m liking Gerber’s 600 series at the minute, while the Leatherman Wave is obviously a contender. SOG make some interesting options as well.

The one handed opening system in the Gerber and it’s status as standard issue to the US military makes it seem like a good option.

Any advice or opinions are most welcome…

@neph93  I can’t speak on the SOG or Gerber multi tools, but I’ve had a Leatherman Wave for over 25 years and it’s been very dependable. I’m sure the steel has been upgraded in the current model by now. Quality is outstanding and I’m sure it would serve your son well if that’s the route you go. Good luck with the search!

Last year, we had a need for garden tools (seemingly along with the rest of the world). I came across Niwaki - who have an interesting backstory and my discovery of them coincided with a growing interest in Japanese denim etc.

We got ahold of some of their relatively inexpensive snips, which have proved to be very good. I was needing some cleaning/sharpening bits last week and in putting in an order to Niwaki took a chance on this little pocket knife:

                                          https://www.niwaki.com/sk-higonokami-folding-knife/#P00583-1

It came today and despite being extremely simple it is a lovely, tactile little thing:

An unintended bonus is that in its sheath, it sits snugly in the buttoned pocket of a workshirt UHF and can be pulled out by it's tang or chikiri.
