This cut looks like it would be perfect for me but I'm a little intimidated by the small waist measurements - is the taper up from the hips that intense? I see the 21oz stretches a fair bit, how are you all sizing this for a more fitted look?

In my experience, sizing down a full inch in the waist is possible on the 21oz. I usually target a 35" true waist, and I went with a size 34. It's worked out great for me.

The 888 Jean definitely tapers inwards from the hips up to the waist, that combined with the high rise means the sit on top of the hips where many people are slimmer. The 555 on the other hand appears to rise straight up form the hips.

I share @Mike_Lima_Papa experience in sizing down, and have in fact successfully gone down two sizes on some models to achieve a slim tapered silhouette.

I agree with @Mike_Lima_Papa - my size 36 888s measure 38" after stretch, which puts the measures all in perfect alignment after a few wears!  I would always take your perfect waist size, find a pair that's roughly 1-1.25" smaller in actual measure, and get those (as long as the thigh and knee work out, obviously).

Thanks all. Between your helpful responses and my own obsessive trolling of this forum I think I have my answer. Always a little bit of the unknown when ordering sight-unseen, even with IH's measurements.

Quick update on my 888s, picked up in November 2020. These things hold on to indigo! I do love the depth of color you get on the 21oz denim though.  I wash them frequently because I hike and do yard work and whatnot in them and the honeycombs seem to reset every time, which I think is why there's not much excitement going on back there.

Hey all I have a little delima & I figured I'd ask the community. I really love the 888 cut and the 21oz denim, but as far as sizing I can not find a 32 anywhere! I have a pair of 8301 in a 33 and they are perfectly snug. I tried a 33 in the 888s-21, but they just felt a lil baggy. I want to try a 32, but who knows when those will be restocked…

My question is: Y'all think a 31 in the 888 would be waaay too small? My size 33 8301 are snug, but not tight, but also I dont think a 32 in the 301 would fit in the thighs.

I love long walks on the beach & 21oz denim.

I am not sure if this is the best thread but am hoping someone can help.  I have never tried Iron Heart jeans and don't have a store near by, so I'll have to order a pair and hope for the best.  I have large thighs and am looking for the Iron Heart cut with the largest thighs.  So far the Left Field Atlas cut has been the best fitting cut I can find.  Has anyone worn both jeans?  Are the 888s similarly roomy in the thigh?  Thanks for any help!

@Nashville60 most 888 wearers are the big thigh guys, other options would be the 634 which is a traditional straight cut with a lower rise, or the 1955 which I've never tried but believe is essentially a traditional straight with a higher rise top block more akin to the 888 (correct me if I'm wrong folks). Basically the 888 should be the best option for you if you've got bigger thighs, like a higher rise and want a tapered cut. Best bet is taking a pair you already own that fit well (i.e. your Left Fields), follow IH's measuring instructions and go from there. You could even share the dimensions on here/directly with IHUK and you'll get plenty of help finding the perfect pair. Happy hunting  🙂

LewisStonehouse gave you great advice. Measure the best fitting pair you have according to the IH measuring guide and you will make a great choice. As far as the 888's go, yes they have roomy thighs but they are tapered also and the taper starts at mid thigh. The 888 and 634 are very different cuts but both can accommodate big thighs. It comes down to personal preference. The 888's are tapered, so they will be trimmer at the knee and end up with a narrower hem opening than the 634's. The top blocks are very different also, with the 888 having a higher rise and sitting at the waist vs the 634 having a mid rise and sitting at the hips.

I have 3 pairs in Atlas and 4 pairs in the 888 cut so I'd consider myself a bit of an expert here.

The Atlas and 888 cuts are virtually indistinguishable from the waist band down to the mid-thigh (~6" below the crotch seam).

Below that point, the 888's taper is more gradual than the Atlas', typically leaving 0.5" more room at the knee, and a full inch at the hem.

Whereas the Atlas hugs my knees and calves, the 888 leaves a nice amount of breathing room without appearing at all baggy.
