Quarantine support officer? what is that? code for Big Brother
I would have done a quick head fake, then shoulder rolled my way right outta there!! -
Whilst en route to visit friends this afternoon, my partner said, "Can we take a detour to Paradise Falls?"
We get there, and only have 50 km left on the trip computer, so we do not get to see the waterfall. There is a petrol station just down the road, but it closes at 3 pm, this is rural Australia, so we rush down there but find it all shuttered.
At that point the car tells me it has 33 km range left, and the nearest fuel is 56 km away. I head off, put the car into fifth gear, and roll on with low revs at 70 km/h for a very tense trip. I figure worst case, we run out, and we get our friend to do a mercy dash to rescue us with a can of petrol.
Somehow we make it, on vapours! :o

I would have done a quick head fake, then shoulder rolled my way right outta there!!Big brother or not, it made a hard point with me. I will not be taking the piss.
The conundrum now is that our PCR test kits were delivered to the office. It's about 300 yards from here and I will meet no one on the way over, nor will there be anyone in the office. Technically by going to pick them up, I am in breach of the self isolation rules and a £10K fine :o

That is indeed a hard number.
They don't make life easy do they? -
@Graeme you haven't lived until you roll on with the dash showing 0kms.
but there's usually enough to go about another 50kms more anyway.

WOW. I have just had a "Quarantine Support Officer" turn up at the house and request photo ID to check that I was self-isolating upon my return from Portugal….
I just received a phone call from the "Track & Trace" team. Checking that I was doing all the right things…..
Her - "Are you aware that you may be visited by one of our team to check that you are at the address you said you would be self-isolating at?"
Me - "Yes, already had a visit"
Her - "Wow, that is the first time I've ever heard that happen"Whatever I have done in the past is now catching up on me

That's what I thought once…..I was wrong
hahah. guess I've been lucky enough to live to tell the tale.

It's pretty interesting… I'm working in a power plant that exists solely to mine Bitcoin. There are racks of servers and computers everywhere. The heat they give off is pretty incredible. I wish I could have taken a picture to show you but I am forbidden. This is an old power plant that was converted to a natural gas fired boiler. They say they are able to mine about four or five Bitcoin per 24 hours.

I pulled this one from the internet so you can see. Pretty much the same here.

Nothing personal, Mike, but what a gross use of energy in our warming world. Bitcoin makes me sick.

Yeah they are probably going to get shut down soon anyway. No offense taken. Either way I thought it was interesting. Seems they are doing the same thing in Russia andnd China.
