Random Rants

Hopefully that can get sorted tonight. I’m still with an officer getting a police report. Having to itemize what’s gone is heartbreaking. Will have to change all my passwords and request new cards and request new documents. Maybe I can get to that tonight.
Thanks for the thoughts everyone.

Yea the only reason I was carrying all those documents was because I had literally just returned from Texas dealing with my mother’s life situation. This was the first place I went after grabbing coffee.

…I'm reading this and I feel absolutely crushed for you. My heart goes out to you brother. There's just no making sense of shit like this. I hope karma hits these people where they live.

I left my sketch books in my GR1 too
Damn.
And with my external hard drive, my MacBook and my sketchbooks gone, all my digital artwork is no more and all the archival images of sold work are now gone too. Oh well I guess

Man, as someone who dabbles in art, and not even seriously, the idea of losing all of your work suuuuuuuuuuucks.
Once you start creating again, if you'd like, I can show you how to store your stuff on the cloud so that this won't ever happen again.
So sorry, man!
-
oh man I am gutted for you dude…that is terrible.
Hope that karma comes back on them. -
This is terrible. I wish I had more words that could help.

Nothing of your digital art synced to iCloud? -
I heard an old viking saying yesterday:
I've met an old man outside his burning house one night. When I asked him why he was lauging, he simply said: It's always better to be alive.
Helped me put some perspective on a couple things, maybe it can help you as well…

Supreme gratitude for the thoughts everyone
Nothing of your digital art synced to iCloud?
I only recently became engaged with the cloud after my iPhone stopped working unexpectedly this fall and I realized I hadn’t upgraded my cloud storage and none of my photos and things synced past 5gb. Lost a lot. Obviously I have a lot to learn. My digital art was from many years ago before I even had an iPhone. I’m more of a traditional analog artist if anything, and the digital phase was a brief anomaly I never really engaged with and I never took the chance to evolve it into new platforms. I was holding onto to them thinking I could make real nice prints and psychedelic lenticulars later this year. I had the files on both my laptop and my external hard drive and thought I was good. Didn’t expect both would be in the same place at the same time when something bad happened. The kick in the dick is the professionally edited photos and .tiff files I had taken of all my colored pencil work over the years.
Once you start creating again, if you'd like, I can show you how to store your stuff on the cloud so that this won't ever happen again.
I might have to take you up on that when the dust settles. I need to evolve and get better at engaging with technology. I’ve been avoiding it.
Perspective
Perspective is key, thank you. It’s all about how you respond as the say…

damn mate. that absolutely sucks. I hope you can recover as much as is possible.
regarding technological advancements and the cloud. I find doing it the old fashion way of physical backup hard drives my go to as well. just make sure that you keep one hidden and never to be brought out anywhere. that way you will always have a backup no matter what happens. I have about 2-3 copies scattered that doesn't leave the home. that way, if anything gets stolen on the go, I can recover most of it.

Yeah, to your point, I still keep the cloud data on hard drives around the house. I used to rotate them into a fire-proof safe, but I've gotten lazy. It's mostly pictures of the kids, weddings, ripped audio, etc.
I also try to use two clouds. I have stuff on Dropbox and Google Drive. I'd be devastated if I lost the pictures of my kids growing up.

@adam313 sorry that this happened to you man. Karma will get those motherfuckers

I hope so. I had a good few hours of adrenaline fueled activity immediately afterward. But I’m struggling these last few days. Still can’t catch my breath so to speak, the loss is astonishing. Superficial and replaceable mostly, but astonishing nonetheless. Insurance won’t help, it’s just a straight loss I can’t get back.
