Does the 555 sit at the waist and wear similar to the 634?

Can anyone suggest other cuts with a top block similar to the 888 only with a more narrow leg?

The 555 top block is higher than the 634, lower than the 888. But the 888 and 555 have very different top blocks. The 555 is quite roomy. The waistband is much bigger compared to tag size than with the 888. For example, a w34 888 will often be 33.5”, whereas a w34 555 might be 35”.

This is exactly the kind of feedback I was looking for, thank you. I'm a true waist size 33 inches and wear a tag size 33 in the 888, so I'm either a 31 or a 32 in the 555 but I'll probably go with 32 to be on the safe side. But based on the measurement chart, a 888 size 33 has nearly 2 more inches of front rise than a 555 size 32 which gives me pause…

Don’t forget to look at the thigh. I would love the slightly lower rise of a 555, but have to stick with 888 because I can’t fit a thigh/waist ratio in most 555.

@theofficialhung while comparing measurements is always useful, they never tell the full story when comparing cuts. The overall shape (and therefore fit) of the 555 top block is very different from that of the 888.

The 888 has a relatively wide seat and tapers inwards above the yoke towards the waistband. The 555 has a relatively wide seat and does not taper after the yoke, creating a much more relaxed overall top block.

That may not be helpful, but my point is the 555 won’t fit like the 634, however if you size down to fit waist you will lose rise. I actually prefer to size down my 888’s (starting at 33.5”) as I find the higher rise gives me cause to, while I am happy to start 555, at 34.5”, 777’s and 666’s are good at 35”. You may find a w33 555 works, although the waistband will likely be loose. But that is what belts are for.

My neophyte two cents is that it isn’t only the waistband on the 555 cut that keeps the denim up, but the entire top block, so some give in the waistband isn’t a problem.

Hello, I just received the 555-01, my first pair of IH, I am truly impressed with the quality, denim etc.

The fit in front rise, knee and tight is perfect right now, the waist is a little tight. I wonder if I should size down, I heard these jeans have some amount of stretch. Right now It would be Ok to have some stretch at the waist, but not in the tights etc. How much are these actually going to strecth?

The waist will stretch up to one inch. The thighs will relax. Maybe up to and average of 0.3” along the length of the thigh.

If the waist is already tight I would not recommend sizing down.

Thanks man. Really pleased with them. Worn them five days straight 😂😂 The 888S and the 777 didn't work for me, so looks like I've found a cut which does.

They are fixable for sure. I’d get them fixed, then start on a new pair. I love it every time I get out my well worn XHS for a trip around the block.

I have a pair of 555-Whites I truly love.  Decided to pick up a pair in indigo yesterday.  Both 21 oz.

Here's the thing?  Why doesn't Iron Heart just measure the pair and slap a size label on it that is accurate?  Why is a white 555 32 waist really 32 inches, but a 32 indigo is 32.7 (or whatever)?  Why not sew in a label that is actually accurate?

I've always wondered this?  Anyone know the answer?  I asked Graham (the guy that always rechecks my size for me when ordering).

Jeans are sewn pair by pair, by hand. I would challenge you to find any brand in the world whose sizing is consistent for every single pair in a tagged size. The fact that Iron Heart provides good accurate measurements for each different release is above and beyond.

Are you expecting that we measure every pair of jeans and stamp 32.1, 32.3, 32.6 etc etc ? Because that won't happen.  Tag size is an approximation always has been, always will be.

To expand upon @sabergirl 's explanation.

If any brand tells you that all their tag 32 measure exactly 32, they are lying.

                                          1. The way jeans are cut (especially with big brands) is that the individual pieces change shape/size through the stack of material that is being stamped or cut out.  Levi's are notorious for having massive sizing variance within a specific tag-size.  When I was a Levi's fanboy in the 70's and 80's, I would try on multiple pairs until I found the exact right fit.

You would think one of the peaks of sizing perfection would be something like formula 1 - There is a massive variance between the size of the tyres that are all supposed to be the same size.

                                          1. Most jeans companies vanity-tag, yes, even for men.  I had to hem a pair of Diesel once, the tag size was 34. they measured 38

                                          2. Use the variance as a positive and dial in the perfect fit.  We have 100's of customers who will email us and say something like, I'd like a tag size 33 that measures as close as possible to 32.5
