Giles,  the way you rigged it would work fine when the pike are aggressive and actively hunting.  This way is better when they are not.

I had 3 and missed about 4 other hits.  None of the ones I landed was large, but that'll happen if I put the hours in….

do you fish Spinner baits @Giles? I have one tied on at all times on my boat, and they are unreal for Pike fishing.

1st fish of the year. got him on a 1/4 oz jig head with a 3 inch zman jerk shad. sizes down for the cold. very slow retrieve with twitches. caught 6 more after this
