Update from the impending Taycan launch.

Fleet of Macan S for the help (guess we're not so special).

The crown Jewel of the various EVs they brought in is the Turbo S. They brought in all the competition, Jaguar, Audi, and Tesla number among the EVs they expect to trounce.

      Impressive brakes for this beast

She has a lovely interior and console

And of course the audio upgrade

      Storage up front

I have a feeling this will be a very fun car to own.

The magic will happen in this room tomorrow.

      Think it, be it.

has anyone ever wondered or thought about why they called it a taycan turbo when in actual fact it has NO turbos? can that be a question that you could ask during the launch?

the thing is practically a battery operated toy car with bigger batteries.. i know the thing is impressive but the naming bothers me… A LOT.

TOP GEAR had the same question… Porsche basically said that in this context, it just meant "fast car"...

Which, weirdly enough, translated to "Load of bollocks" in my mind...

i know lots of turbo cars that aren't fast. porsche is just getting lazy. i don't mind them using an S term for whatever reason to differentiate a faster model but this is just confusing.

I definitely see the argument, but they probably see it as the opposite of confusing to use the same words to tier this line that they use for other lines. Most of their engines feature turbochargers, but not all of their cars are branded accordingly. So I think that the word has become more a product classification than a literal feature for Porsche. Turbo to Porsche means "top tier." In fact, interpreting it otherwise would result in almost every of their vehicles having that badge.

Interesting how languages vary. I think in American that translates to "fucking bullshit".

And since apparently words don't matter to Porsche, I'm sure they'll be fine with my assertion that in this context, Taycan means "trash can".

Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. Do you really think Porsche is trying to mislead people dropping $200k on a car, or that people dropping $200k on an EV are going to be angry when they later determine that there's no turbocharger…. on an EV? When they use the term "Supercharger" to brand a car charging device, is Tesla misleading consumers?

This is a branding choice that you can agree or disagree with, but to think there's a conspiracy to mislead here is nonsense.

Nor am I but it's a daft trend with car manufacturers currently, for example Audi and their 35TFSI 40TFSI etc, BMW the same…what\y can't they just state the engine size!

Compared to that, S, GTS, Turbo, Turbo S, etc seem pretty straightforward brand segmentation. You just have to let go of the origin of a word and you basically know what each trim model is within its line is without having to think about it (e.g., "Turbo" is obviously faster than something that's not "Turbo"… "Turbo S" is like "Turbo" but better).

Anyway, as to the "bake-off" between rival EVs, I was surprised to learn the Jag is getting its ass kicked. The VW EV, it turns out, runs a diesel engine to charge its batteries*. Tesla aside, I think the Audi e-Tron seems to be the top competitor among what they brought in based on range and performance, and it has great amenities as well.

Hoping to get some shots of much more interesting, gas guzzling Porsches this month, and perhaps some video from the track (inside as well as outside of cars-in-motion).

*This is a joke. There is no VW competitor. 😃

It is so luxurious and Audi does such a great job with technology bells and whistles in the cabin. I think it was my second-favorite in that room, trailing the Porsche just because I know it can get to 60mph in 2.4 seconds and a quarter mile in 10.5 and will have better handling dynamics than anything else in the room.

Though were I to buy one of these, I think Tesla is still the most practical option, even if Model S is getting long in the tooth and interior fit and finish is comparatively utilitarian.

i guess you haven't seen an egg yet then.. those things are menacing on the road. love the agera and regera.. and they just came up with a 1700bhp 2+2 seater. 600bhp from a 2.0L three cylinder turbo engine is mind blowing..

Having a grand time at the Porsche Experience Center in LA. We got to do a few laps in a Taycan Turbo S with a pro driver (crazy acceleration and chassis stability under turns) and there is effectively a car show on the lot in addition to the 917s, 918 Spyder, and other legendary cars they have in the garage. Saw a GT as well, but it was actually in the lot.

Next we will be piloting their new VR simulator. And then driving some Taycans!
