I just got my Bedouin Balian Sling fresh from the UK last night. It was originally a carryology collaboration but that run sold out almost instantaneously.

This bag is not as exclusive and doesnt have the orange drill interior but is otherwise the same specs. Dyneema, tumbled Italian leather, and AustriAlpin buckles. It only holds the essentials but is a really comfortable and slick little bag. I’m really thrilled with it.

Hmmmm, been eyeing this one up!

How much can it hold? Worth getting?

Well it doesnt hold a whole lot but it is a very organized 4L bag. It has a hidden slot on the back with a recessed zipper for valuables and the large slot has spaces for a pen, phone (fits my 11 but barely), and sunglasses. It will also hold a mini tablet like a kindle fire or paperwhite plus a bandana and a protein bar. I havent tried to fit a water bottle but a small bottle may just fit if you dont have too much other stuff with it.
Access wise, the zips are water resistant and still pretty stiff. With dyneema being a crumply material it is a 2 hand opener at this point. It is easy to fling the bag from back to front for access purposes and to keep your bag close at hand. I do love the buckle but it’s heavy and bit too much for this small of a bag. I feel the same way about my BagJack Sniper bag which has a similar sized AustriAlpin buckle. Amazing hardware just too much [emoji848]
Other materials are just plain top notch. I’m a huge sucker for anything dyneema and the leather back feels good and smells amazing. The webbing, lining, and tape all is way over the top which Bedouin of course is known for.
Is it worth it? It’s really expensive but it’s probably one of the best sling bags out there. If it fits your needs I’d go for it. I dont know how long this run will last but I imagine some Carryology fan boys will be all over.

Quick update after a few trips w the Balian. It does hold more than I thought. This am I was able to fit in a half pound of coffee and a small Swell bottle (in addition to my other edc junk) without any issue.

I would just like to give a big shout-out to Ortlieb.

I took a 110 duffel to Madagascar.  It was 4 years old.  I buggered the zip whilst away.

I contacted Ortlieb when I got home and admitted I had no proof of purchase.  This appeared in the mail today.

                Amazing service…..

Silly question but the Ortleib bags fare well as checked luggage? Since Rimowa has gone to shite I’ve been looking for an alternative checkable piece.

I love them.  I like the fact that the Duffels and derivatives are one compartment, it means I can get a load of big stuff in easily.  They are essentially soft, so they will not protect the contents as well as a Rimowa.  But having said that, I use them for carting large amounts of fishing tackle and diving equipment about, not had any internal damage. We have about 9 of them, going up to 140litres, we use them for transporting large amounts of Iron Heart from show to show or for store-meets.  The only one that I have managed to damage yet, is the Duffel 110 I buggered up in Madagascar, but they gave me a new one, so I'm not that bothered.

Just be aware, the 140litre ones often get treated as oversized luggage.

No… that's for sure. Created to have fun driving on lovely country roads. Who needs a waterproof car if you have Barbour Jackets...

Agree with G. I don't personally use hardshells or luggage that is excessively compartmentalized (yes, I know those are often diametrically opposed), because I can use hard "packing cubes" if I am carrying something fragile and prefer the option of being able to squeeze something into a tight space as needed. For all practical purposes I ususally have whatever fragile stuff is with me in my small carryon backpack (the place where I do value compartmentalization and organization) anyway. The compartments I do value in luggage are places for shoes and suits.

The one thing I do like about hardshell pieces is their light weight.

                                    Think it, be it.

I like options. We have a Rimowa travel sport trunk and three carryons. I also have the SDR traveller dyneema dufflle, and a weekender by Mismo. I would have liked another wheeled Rimowa but if the Ortleib pieces are bullet proof as they sound, we’ll be buying. I also love Redoxx but the slick fabric of the Ortleibs looks really nice.
