I signed up for a free trial of HBO Now to watch the Chernobyl mini-series. It was excellent and extremely depressing. Do not watch if you recently quit smoking though… or are subject to being depressed by what you watch. The are many horrifying things depicted.

@Filthy Now that you have HBO I’d highly recommend watching Barry with Henry Winkler and Bill Hader. Sometimes funny, sometimes violent, gets really twisted and dark in the second season.

I enjoyed "I Am Mother" on Netflix. A novel take AI and dystopia. Hard not to say much more than that without spoilers.

For most of my life I have had nightmares about being stuck to the walls and ceiling above my bed, even recently. And I saw this thing about being abducted by aliens and people feeling stuck to the ceiling above their beds, and thought maybe these nightmares were somehow linked to that. 'Maybe I was abducted by aliens?", I thought… Further feeding into the fear of these dreams.

So, I just watched the movie Poltergeist earlier tonight.  I know I saw it when I was very young on HBO or maybe at the theater. All I could remember about the movie until watching it again was the creepy old lady screaming, "DON'T GO INTO THE LIGHT!"...

Anyway, I know now why I've had those nightmares all my life. It is because of the last few scenes of that movie. It's kind of funny because the movie is total bullshit now. But, I guess the movie really fucked me up as a kid? I wonder how that movie was only rated PG?  😃

At least now I know that I wasn't abducted by aliens. I wonder if I will continue to have the dreams now that I know what the fear stems from?  Gonna watch Poltergeist 2 now maybe. I know that one has concepts in it from H.R. Giger. Should be pretty cool.

I thought it was decent. Didn’t understand how the Kree (members of Star Force) are seemingly immune to Captain Marvel’s powers, yet she’s able to completely destroy starships [emoji848]

@Filthy for (what ultimately became) a PG-13 film (it was actually released as R, but Spielberg appealed that with the MPAA when PG-13 came out a couple of years after theatrical release), Poltergeist is terrifying. It just has an eerie quality. The soundtrack/sound effects help establish that atmosphere. I love it but see how it could scar someone–I was unsettled for some time after I saw it as a boy. Guessing it might seem pretty silly if I were to view it now, but that's probably more due to primitive special effects than anything.

yeah man, I am not kidding about having nightmares for like 30+ years. I watched Poltergeist 2 and I thought it was pretty cool. The Geiger designs kind of missed their mark though. But I read that he wasn't happy with the movie at all. But he refused to fly to Hollywood until it was too late. But I still thought certain aspects of the movie were awesome. I also love JoBeth Williams from that era too… 😍

I don't even remember II, I should probably give it another spin. I really think that Ridley Scott & co did such a great job bringing Giger's art to life in the xenomorphs that it will be hard to top that, especially if they didn't engage until late in the project.
