^ I ‘ve not had a milkshake ipa yet. I gave to say, it doesn’t really appeal as a concept.
It’s not for everyone. And I can’t really say that the ones I’ve tried even tasted as advertised. However, I still enjoy them. The fluff buddy marshmallow double ipa I drank last week was surprisingly good. It didn’t use lactose, which is in most dessert beers, so it was a nice change. But it was still an ipa with a hint of sweetness. Same with the Coconut Killer ipa, didn’t taste any coconut but it was very smooth. there’s a gazillion choices for beer and I’m gonna reach for stuff that looks off the wall and interesting.

I like lactose in dessert stouts but it’s the idea of using it in an ipa that doesn’t appeal.
The guy I spoke with at the liquor store said the same thing and that he wished breweries went back to making regular beer. Lactose works in ipa’s most of the time but not all the time. I try to be discriminating when it comes trying new beer, especially dessert ipa’s. I have to be because they’re so expensive [emoji848]

I started on the dessert beer fad with stouts and porters. I've only had one dessert porter that I thought was really bad, but the others were decent. But, after trying dessert stouts from 6 or 7 breweries I started to get burnt out on them and switched to milkshake ipa's. I've tried a sour as well which I liked, so will revisit that in the future.
For me it boils down to variety. Everybody makes ipa's, stouts and porters, so in order for breweries to stand out from the crowd they have to often do a little bit of creative marketing. This could be brand presentation or gimmicky flavors. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I'm a big fan of Drekker because I like their marketing and I like most of the beers that i've tried. The important thing is, Drekker, as a whole, makes great beer. I rarely drink more than 1 beer on any given night but I actually had 2 of the Coconut Killer ipa yesterday because it's so darned good

Lotta Grapefruit here too. Oat fills it out nicely too.

I’m a twat. I took this Amundsen/Track collab DIPA for a ride last week. Liked it so much I picked up a couple more. Turns out it has lactose in it [emoji23] In fairness there is nothing sweet or “dessert” about it. It’s all bitter pine needles and grapefruit which is what I like best.
I love DIPA’s. Most of the dessert beers I’ve tried only had a slight amount of sweetness and were very hoppy. Sweet can be good but not too sweet.

Coffee and Vanilla beans. Horus stouts are hard to beat. Really thick and syrupy.
