@Filthy:
It seems like Total Recall was actually a vision of the future? This blows my mind…

I can't wait for people to start moving to Mars. Ideally they won't be coming back though.

I'm sure the massive dust storms, freezing temps and the possibility of getting sucked into the vacuum of space will make for a great tourism poster

The denim fades tho…

Yeah I also have the complete Asterix and Obelix series and all Lucky Lukes that had Morris & Goscinny working as a team…
Really cool Collection, the Asterix und Obelix movies burned into my brain, everytime i´m at some sort of governomet building i think of their journey through Rome in "Asterix erobert Rom"

I think it probably makes more sense to colonize the moon first, then use the lunar base as a base for missions to Mars.
Living on either would be pretty bad for the foreseeable future.
But speaking of the topic, I'd heartily recommend Heinlein's "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress," which is to some degree a libertarian screed disguised as a sci-fi novel about a lunar colony declaring independence from Earth. In that one, similar to places like Australia and Georgia (the one in the USA), the colony started off as a penal one. Crazy to me that anything but that circumstance would get someone to live off-planet, as long as Earth remains habitable. I suspect almost everyone who ventures to live off-planet will soon regret it.

I enthusiastically endorse Musk moving to Mars as soon as practicable.
By the time we start regular trips tp Mars, “most people in advanced economies” will have $100k in student loans, not home equity. Maybe he’ll accept those as payment?

I´d buy a 80s 911 Turbo for 100k, if everyone is on Mars if have enough Room on the Autobahn to drive it proberly
930 Turbo? You will have to add at least 30k…but on the other hand if everyone's on the Mars prices will decrease... Ever driven a 930 with 160km/h+? Not the easiest car and mind the rain...

930 Turbo, exactly. I hope for a Mars emigrant that needs to sell his car ASAP to get a decent price, thats probably the only way to ever get an old 911 at a good rate
I drove a 993 Turbo at 160+ km/h at a Country road and held on for dear life but it was hella fun

Wow 993 Turbo, yeah that's an amazing car. But ok it's a four-wheel, that makes quite a difference beside other mannerisms of the 930. IMHO (and many others) 993 is still the best 911 ever. A 993 4s been my first 911 and what a great car it was, I'm kicking myself today having sold it…

It is indeed, really fun to drive with the "real" 911 seating position and the mighty sound from behind, brutal. I´m more drawn to the 930 Turbo because i like that 911 Design Era the most (70/80), I don´t know why, it´s just a vibe kinda thing, i wasnt even born back then. I think every 911 owner has that i shouldnt have sold that car story, the owner of the 993 had a 930 beforehand and is now bummed he sold that for the 993.

I think we are already at that point now, at least in the states.

Jeez. Snowpocalypse pt. 5 is happening tonight at midnight and we’re expecting another 6-9” of snow. We got hammered last week too. Boo! [emoji53]

@gaseousclay
They already canceled school for the kids tomorrow and it’s 38*F outside right now. Not even raining.
Granted we are in Maryland so most folks here don’t handle snow very well. Great excuse to take the kids skiing though. -
I sent an old pair of jeans into this woman I found on Etsy today… to make a welding cap out of it. I have a feeling the 21 oz denim is going to smoke her sewing machine. But she agreed to try. I am so excited to upcycle one of my retired pairs. If this works she makes all kind of awesome hats, so I am super excited.
