Right where the hood sides meet, there is a little thread between - is this normal seam construction? Is there any risk to damaging or pulling this and weakening the overall construction?

@wrussell1992  not sure tbh. It looks like the standard flat seam you’d expect to see at that point. Whether it is unusual for part of it to bridge that gap or not, I’m don’t know. With regards to construction, it is really tough thread so it would take a lot to break it, but it wouldn’t be good if it did go.

I recommend that you send those pics and your query straight to the crew in Gosport via the shop email (assuming that is where you bought it). They’ll know the score or be able to confer with the makers in Japan if not.

Thanks - does yours have a similar seam/thread? I bought from Self Edge in San Francisco, US. Will see if I can ask them but it feels silly to not wear the garment due to this. It's new so would want to be able to swap out if it is an issue.

If you have a structural issue with the piece your first port of call should be Self Edge, providing they have stock I'm sure they'll exchange it for a replacement.

That being said of course you're more than welcome to come to us with any queries!

Based on the second image, snipping it or singing the ends won't cause too much trouble but if you're not happy with it, I'd recommend going to SE and seeing what they can do!

The devil is in the detail..

Mine is about five years old and I've used it for wood chopping, construction, you name it. I've torn it and fixed it a number of times including at the neck when I tried to take it of while wearing ear defenders (like a dick). So I couldn't tell you I'm afraid.

Nice! Sounds like there is no reason to worry… Worst case I bring it in to get tied off, otherwise can be repaired to the extent I abuse the thing. Thanks for the responses on this
