Watched a few pictures the past few days (instead of studying, so I'm feeling guilty but at the same time cinemeducated):

Galveston - Nice, gritty, sort of a story without story except a very broad one. I like movies like this BUT I prefer them without annoying little kids; kids and movies don't go together. 6/10

Manchester by the Sea - Like above, the story was more like a framework for minute conversations, feelings and emotions. Good. Chasey Afleck was like a poor man's Ryan Gosling in this. 8/10

Beirut - Exciting bits here and there but overall, I'd call it a very Hollywood-style failure. 4/10

Mystic River - Can't believe this came out in 2003 yet I only watched it now. Very good - if convoluted in places - and seems to confirm that C. Eastwood is unable to come up with anything less than excellent (not counting the one about preventing a terror strike in Paris-bound train, forgot the name, that's was laughably bad). 8/10

Molly's Game - A story worth telling, and I've been led to believe this stayed pretty true to the actual facts. Not very exciting and ultimately, the build-up led to nowhere in particular, which further adds credibility to the "based on a true story" concept. 7/10

To Rome with Love - Like I've noted before, I somehow watch everything Woody does despite rarely really enjoying them and this was trademark Woody in all the aspects that I don't like about his work. Repulsive characters and comedy that was seldom funny. Plus it had Jesse "The least talented A-lister" Eisenberg in it which leads to automatic points-deduction. 4/10 cos it had its moments.

The Circle - Wait… What... How... Holy swinging gonads this was bad. 2/10, 1 extra point on the occasion of the new year's eve. Happy New Year, don't watch this turd of a movie.

Saw Into the Spiderverse yesterday.  Definitely worth going to see in the theater @Chris .  Animation/writing/soundtrack/voice work/etc, fantastically done across the board…

Overall I thought it was decent. I liked the references to the previous films and the pacing. Not sure about the apex predator idea since this was done in Predators. I did like the characters though and thought they carried the film pretty well

I liked it well enough but it wasn’t any different from the first. Very predictable too. I knew who the antagonist of the film was before they even revealed him [emoji23] other than that, the action sequences were excellent

                    Venom: 5/10

Pretty mediocre film imo. CGI looked horrible and the plot was a bit boring. [emoji107]

I thought it was a fun movie, though you could tell it suffered from some bad editing and weird rewrites.

                      And Predators was underrated…

Oh yea I must watch Equalizer 2, have been pushing it down the list for no particular reason.

I enjoyed the first one very much so more of the same sounds like a sound offering. 😎

A sequel to a movie that didn't call for one, this one was predictably disastrous in its unmitigated suckiness. I don't intentionally watch many "so bad it's good" films so maybe it's a matter of lack of routine, but watching this was an exercise in rolling your eyes (mine are a bit sore now).

2/10 and the points are for the original concept, introduced in the excellent first movie. This turd added nothing. I'm livid but will get over it.

I saw the documentary 'Last Man on the Moon' over the holidays. I'm definitely late to the party on this one (movie came out in 2014) but it was excellent.

Really enjoyed Blackkklansman. Heavy topic, but handled well, enough action and comic relief to dilute things a bit. The epilogue was moving. I get the sense that some serious liberties were taken with the story, but that it's based on a true story is interesting as well.

                                Think it, be it.

+1 - I watched this on a plane over Christmas and thought it was great

Avatar was an amazing movie from a technical perspective, but man, it's crap otherwise.  I wonder how terrible it is without the wow factor of 3D.

On a side note, that Avatar Flight Of Passage ride at Disney is f-ing phenomenal…

Never saw Avatar so I figured I’d give it a go. I typically like Cameron’s work but the cgi aspect usually kills things for me. I have low expectations

I loved Avatar actually. I agree the story isn't deep (but then again, few SF movies have deep stories), and the imagery is phenomenal.

Watched it just now, agree with everything you said and with your rating as well. This kind of a movie is an exceedingly rare beast and I’m thankful to Fuqua & Washington for sticking to the formula.
