Ah yes, you are right, we did not order any XXL as we had a few in.  The OD process does shink the denim, but not consistently:

Just picked up one of these, lovely weight and I can tell already its going to pick up some good fades.

Side note, it was my first order from the iron heart shop and they were amazing. I went for the XL and it turned out a bit big on the upper shoulders, the guys sent out a L without having to send back the shirt so I could compare the two.

Wore this to Oktoberfest today. Don't worry; some poor-quality lederhosen are coming tomorrow.  😃

Question for owners of this shirt. What kind of shrinkage did you see after the first wash? I own an XL and like the way it fits now and would prefer if it shrunk minimally or not at all. Will I be safe with a cold wash/soak?

I washed my IHSH-33-ind at 40C and 400rpm and it shrunk about 1cm in all dimensions. I think a 30C wash/cold hand wash will minimise shrinkage but you may still get a little.

I guess I've had this a bit over a year now; this has been by far my most worn shirt over that time, but it still only gets worn maybe 5-6 times a month since IH makes way too many good shirts.  ::)

I hadn't worn this shit in a year since I got my SDA suvin gold one. Not sure why I did that, as the denim on this shirt is amazing, not just in the look, but also the soft feel on both the warp and weft.

Just put it in for it's first wash.

I picked one of these up in the Christmas sale, perfect timing as I had been coveting a IH shirt for the best part of a year.

I was pretty much between sizes, the medium was near perfect, and felt that if the fabric yielded it would be a great slim tailored profile, albeit a tad short in the body. But not having experienced the material or denim shirts in general I was really worried about future shrink.. I think I have my denim wash regime nailed but any shrink on the chest etc would be challenging and on the length of body or arms probably irrecoverable! So… I went for the large, still a good fit but a little more generous to allow layering with a henley and I am considering a hot soak to see if I can get half a centimetre or so off.

(I also picked up a IHSH-62 Wabash, but the cut is more generous and the large I bought was returned, fantastic fabric and still on the list.. just need a medium!)

Really looking forward to the evolution of this denim, whilst I have dreams of deep honeycombs on the sleeves , I think this will be a long time coming!
                        Best regards
                        Chris

@DevonReviewer this is my documented shrinkage from the IHSH-33-IND. Same fabric so the shrinkage should be similar. For what it's worth the wabash of the IHSH-62 will shrink meaningfully too, with the correct treatment.

Did you get around to taking the post-wash measurements?

Ok… the before is based on Alex’s measurements of the same shirt, the after is after a 40C wash with low spin and air dry. It’s all in centimetres. Because Europe.

                          Before/After
                          Shoulder 48/47,4
                          Length 78/76.8
                          Chest 58,8/58
                          Sleeve 66.6/65.5

Thanks, sounds like a good opportunity to modify the fit… I have avoided machine washes for all my denim to date, and intend to continue, what do you think about a half hour bath tub soak at 40 and then 60 if I seek a bit more shrink?

Temperature is important for shrinkage, but so is agitation. Move it around and it will shrink more. Excuse me for getting down and dirty, but if you sweat anywhere near as much as I do you'll need agitation to get this shirt clean. My point being that gentle washing regimes with jeans are doable if you don't labour in them, shirts not so much. So there is an argument for just getting the shrinkage out.

I see what you mean, will see how it goes and keep an open mind to machine washes; our washing machine does have some very gentle programs that may be suitable!

I'll dig the better camera out and get some pictures of the roping etc in the next few days. Its really epic and a great shirt.

As far as long term wear, it definitely takes some time, but as you can see it pays off for sure.

The first year or so it was my go to over layer or just shirt most of the time. Then the last few months other shirts have taken up my time. Mostly I've spent the winter working on the 178
