Just finished Jack Ryan. I was never a huge fan of the books, so I didn't have a lot of preconceived notions, which probably helped, so I thought it was pretty solid. Fairly well rounded characters and some genuinely tense moments. Obviously, some unbelievable action hero bits, and I'm ambivalent about John Krasinski in the title role, but overall, an enjoyable series. I especially liked that Amazon didn't feel the need to bloat the episode count, like Netflix does.

I've only seen John Krasinski in 2 films, 13 hours and A Quiet Place. I've grown to like him as an actor despite my association of him in The Office (which I never watched).
-
I just thought it was bland and nowhere near the quality of the books
-
This is the only thing I've seen Krasinski in besides The Office. That said, I don't have any of those, "Look! It's Jim from The Office!" type problems with him. He seems like a decent actor; there's just something about seeing this jacked 6'3" dude wandering around perpetually saying, "I'm just an analyst" that seems off. Maybe it would be more believable if he still looked and dressed like Jim…

PARTS UNKNOWN: oh I'm way behind… It actually took Bourdain to die before I checked this out... But it's a stunning show, and I like him as well... The energy, love for food, the love for LIFE; it's magnetising...
It is. It gutted me when he died. I still haven’t watched an episode since. He just seemed to be such a genuine human being who really had life figured out in every sense of the word, who knew how to live and was living life to the fullest. It really shook me to hear that he took his own life. It didn’t seem possible that someone living the life he seemed to be living could find himself in such a dark place. Depression is a horrible, horrible disease.

Just started Ozark. Liking it so far

Only shitty thing of PARTS UNKNOWN is almost every show they kill an animal… Currently making sausages of the intestines of a black Sicilian pig they just shot (not sure they showed that, I skipped ahead)...
I hear you man.

Have I mentioned "Sharp Objects" here? I love a crime thriller, I love southern gothic and I love slow paced, literary TV that builds character and atmosphere. This show is creepy af and deeply unpleasant, but utterly brilliant.
While not in the same class I'm currently three episodes into "Castle Rock" and that doesn't suck either.
-
Castle Rock was worth watching for sure. I’ll have to check out Sharp Objects, it does look interesting.
-
YES and YES.

Jimmy Iovine is the man.

@neph93 now that sounds a bit of Sarah and I. HBO, so probably not on Amazon prime and we refuse to have Netflix. It might be a pay per view for Amazon, I'll check tonight. Thanks for the heads up.

Excellent, glad you got hold of it. The good news is that unlike other great limited series (True Detective S1 is a prime example) this one holds its own right to the very end.
