A while back I got frustrated with the pictures from my phone, and after a bit of research bought myself a DSLR camera (Nikon 3400). I know very little about photography. I’m an engineer so I understand the concepts, but haven’t looked into the meaning/application of f-stop, iso etc. I mostly just use the presets, and do no post-processing on my pictures at the moment.
I’m open to criticism/critique/tips. I know there are knowledgeable people here so feel free to chime in. I also hope people will throw up some of their own shots.
I have two lenses: a 40mm micro and a 18-200 zoom. I use the micro for close ups and stills, and the zoom for general shooting (mostly of our backyard critters). Some of the shots I feel are worthy of posting:

Thanks! Took about 150 nature shots to come up with those few. I’m learning that photography is a numbers game. How people did it well with actual film is beyond me.
Also I should note that my post above was starting a new thread in Hobbies. The mods redirected me here.

@tvenuto Been doing photography for along time, with my motto being Never stop learning. The most important thing to me and the aspect of photography that I work on most is the composition. Recently attended a NASCAR race where I had a pit pass. In this picture the subject was, originally, centered but I felt by moving him over it made it more compelling. I don’t do much action photography, therefore most of my photography is aperture based. The aperture is dictated by how much depth of field I want, after I set that I adjust the shutter speed and ISO so that my images are not blurred.
