      Thanks Ann,

Yes she has documentation, signed contracts, etc.

They keep saying “it’s in the works” and when can’t figure it out keep saying “it will happen next month” - and then say no back pay is given on agreed upon pay periods.

It just makes me hate corporate America more and more.

        .

So, if anyone works in medical billing and needs a supervisor, hit me up.

The best thing y'all can do is for her to simply leave. It's hard not to react and seek vengeance, but that will not be a good move long-term.

Maybe I can help: I work in healthcare on the vendor side for a large company that plays in revenue cycle and related areas. Hit me up, we may have opportunities she would like and the company treats employees well regardless of gender (my boss and her bosses boss are female, and our team composition is at least half women). She would be able to work remotely.

        Think it, be it.

@Appfaff It’s ridiculous that companies take one of two forms:

              1. Extremely small ones that take care of their people (even at the expense of the owners)
              2. Medium to large ones that will go as far as the law allows to screw their own people

Not entirely sure how we got here. Perhaps it’s that the good-conscience having small business owners just aren’t ruthless enough to grow?  I know that you know all about being #1. And what’s funny is that often clients and employees act like #1 companies are #2 companies anyway.

Adam, I would say the only sensible strategic move is for her to hand in her resignation. One of two things will happen. Either your wife gets a new job and moves on from what sounds like a shithouse of a “boss”, or they sort things out in a minute when they realise she isn’t someone you can fuck with.

Agreed. Even if they did sort things out and properly compensate her it would be a case of too little, too late.

I’m limited to “un canã mas, por favor”. I don’t think that’s right either, but they get the message.

@tvenuto  we got here because companies make it their business to understand and bend/break the law. In my work I make it my business to know and understand all of the legislation I work with better than those that basically pretend to know it. Unionise companies and organisations. Form workforce support networks…I started a mental health support network at my work. 2 years on we have been involved in the review and rewriting of policies that have hugely benefited all employees.

Employees have a duty of care to their employees (in the UK and EU at least, can't comment on the USA). Organisations can't function without custom or staff, and they should look after both.

@Appfaff I hope your wife gets her due. I hope it's a case of managers and accounts not knowing their arse from their elbow rather than being deliberate.

On several occasions when I was very young my Mom would see a very big woman and remark “She’s built like a brick shithouse” Thanks for clarifying that for me after all these years,

She believes that is what happened in this case. Her live for her employees outweighs all… probably why she produces higher numbers than managers twice her age.

Plus, since I am a bit of a mystery to them, they are pretty quick to think I’d probably be able to make bodies disappear if I needed to.

If anything, publicly traded status is the biggest factor, but my current company is publicly traded $5bn company that goes above and beyond for its employees, where my previous company does the same at about half the scale, also publicly traded. As usual, broad generalizations don't apply. Companies are comprised of individuals and thus reflect the ethics of those individuals.
