I got to see an IWC Big Pilot Big Date today. It's one of their 150th anniversary collection, and I think it's a limited edition of 150 pieces in each of the dial colours.

This one is already spoken for. I'd prefer the white faced version, which I think would be a bit more versatile.

Oh, I was wanting to see the new Rolex models at one of the dealers today. However, despite saying that it was the last day of the display today, they'd packed it up by mid-afternoon. I'd been hoping to get my hands on one of the GMTs. 😞

I love pilot watches–while I get the point about the white being more versatile, I do love the classic black dial.

I'm curious what the advantages of individual date numerals (versus a single dial with all the dates) would be on a watch that's already so large.

              Think it, be it.

In short, it is more Complicated which makes it more intersting for Watch Nerds, especially the A. Lange Fan Likes his Watches to be as complicated as possible.

                  Interesting, thanks!

Sounds like just another thing to break, which, on a tool watch (such as a pilot watch) (which this purports to be, whether or not it is also a luxury watch), is unappealing.

I do see how perhaps there could be more flexibility as to where the date is located with the two small dials as opposed to a single large one, but I'll let the horologists smell their own farts when it comes to needless complications. Which works out well, since I can't afford them anyway.

                  Think it, be it.

That blue dial is lovely, and looks so much better in real pictures than it does on the website renderings.  Love the big date, too.  Someday, eventually, I'll get a watch that has that feature.  It will be helpful, since by then I'll be really old, and have even worse eyesight.

The Melbourne Bell & Ross boutique had one of the new Laughing Skull watches in stock today. Apparently it's the only one in Australia, and is number 8/500.

Two things make this piece interesting. It's got the first in-house movement from Bell & Ross, and the skull's jaw moves up and down as the watch is wound.

Unfortunately it doesn't move as the watch is running.

It's already a pretty big watch at 46mm, and the case is noticeably thicker than their other skull watches, so it's probably not as wearable. I also felt as though it didn't feel quite as special as it should. Something like the Bulgari Octo Finissimo is more nicely finished.

For the money, I'd be tempted by the Bulgari, or the IWC Big Pilot, which I posted a few days ago.

The other watch that caught my eye was the Burning Skull in bronze.

This is a limited edition of 100, and I don't think they're for sale outside of Asia, so I was surprised to see one. It's got an ETA movement, and it's much slimmer than the laughing skull.

The non-aligned screws on the case have already set off @mclaincausey's OCD when he saw the picture on Instagram, and the crown is also off-centre.

It'd be kinda cool if the jaw chimed but in the end a costume watch like this seems like something you'd pick up from Fossil.

@mclaincausey I don't mind the Bell & Ross being a bit costume. It appeals more than a lot of the vintage styled pieces that the watch manufacturers are pushing out.

What puts me off is that the case could be sharper. If you look at something like a Ploprof (in the same price bracket), it looks much more machined, and the finishing is a lot better.

                                @JDelage that Marinemaster looks lovely.

Omega have announced the Railmaster Denim, which adds a blue dial and denim strap, and replaces the vintage lume with white.

I'm a bit in two minds about this watch. I like denim, and I like the Railmaster, but it's maybe a bit too much. A tan leather strap might tone it down, and blue dials are pretty cool right now.

However, it would allow for watch fades! 😛

I like it, and it looks like the strap is leather-based, so it should be durable enough. Not sure I see the point of the 2 retainers though.
