Things got busy with the trip to the UK amongst other things. FnC was an absolute blast and while the tour jeans didn’t make the trip you can catch up with the action on the appropriate thread.

This is a throwback to the week before when we finally got something that looked like summer and escaped to the cabin for a day.

The weather was up to scratch

The cabin is a fairly traditional affair. Cabin ownership in Norway is fairly common although they’ve progressed from hunting/fishing shacks without electricity or water to holiday homes.

Ease of access varies wildly. Some people have a few hours drive. Some have ferry crossings or cabins that are boat access only. Some have a hike up a mountain so as to reach theirs. Ours is a half an hour drive away and we can drive to the door.

It’s on a lake in the foothills north east of my town. Personally I’d like something a little further away on a fjord with more mountainous terrain. One day maybe.

Homemade waffles with «brünost» (Norwegian sweet, brown, goat’s cheese) and jam are obligatory. Hot Ingrid is the waffle master.

Other activities include shooting competitions for the big boys, Jesper (15), Noah (15), and Seba (10).

            A bit of badminton

            And looking cute in camo

            Continuation in the next post.

              PART 2

The property goes down to the water’s edge and from there it’s a two minute walk to a beach.

It’s pretty cold even on a warm day (in May it was still covered in 50cm thick ice), but the boys are tough.

              Some more than others…

              Hot Ingrid in cabin mode

After all that it was sausage o’clock…

Then back home to sit up late and look at the sky…

Oh, and I finished the damn wall…

That cabin by the lake looks amazing and what a wonderful life the young guns have, growing up with those surroundings.

I'm not sure if you said but how far was the cabin from your place?

                  Thank you sir.

I wrote that it’s 30min away, but it’s not even that. More like 20.

Funny story and info about brown cheese here. This happened a couple of hours drive north from where I live:

Local cheese trader in our suburb has it in stock 😁.

Thank you. It was a wreck when we bought it but we were seduced by the 70’s geometry. We’ve added to it and kept the faith with the building work outside.

I could tell you a whole load about the building and the neighbourhood but in short the architect who designed the houses, designed the entire neighbourhood and was young and idealistic. As is often the case in these situatuons some of his ideas were magnificent and have stood the test of time, whereas as some were naive and and haven’t. Rightly or wrongly we’ve maintained and perpetuated some of the poorer features as we like the original aesthetic ideal.

It can be like that although Lindgren’s Sweden has better weather but less impressive scenery.

We went up the cabin again the other day, this time with the in-laws. Weather wasn’t as nice (14C and a sea fog from the west) but we had fun.

Neighbouring cabin but what’s interesting is the sea fog rolling over the tops of the hills in the background.

                                  Out for a walk

Before the sea fog caught up with us and it got really chilly

I prepared and barbequed some trout for dinner in the encroaching mist.

                                    Good day…

It’s what we call sjøørret or sea trout in Norway but it’s basically just a big brown trout. Tastes good!

So I’ve been on the Costa Blanca and inland in Valencia province for two weeks. I actually took the jeans with me and wore them on the flight their to give this post legitimacy. With an average temperature of 30C though they didn’t get worn otherwise. Like a dumbass it didn’t occur to me to include them in shots like @Aetas  did to great effect on the Triple Terror tour. But anyhoo…

My parents own a holiday home in Valencia province outside of a small town called Jalon/Xàlo. It’s in some foothills and surounded by almond and orange groves. There’s a lot of vines as well that get made into some decent local wine.

The heart of the house is a finca, a couple of hundred years old but it has been extended with bedrooms, a kitchen and a second floor. The outside area has been developed seriously in the 15 years my parents have owned the place. It really is one of my favourite places in the world.

We get regular visits from the local wildlife. Some of it welcome, some, not so much…

I had the whole family of seven with me so my rental vehicle for the week was the Nephmobile…

I can’t believe it but I may have to buy one. It was so great to have.

The last week was at an enormous resort hotel called Villaitanà. We celebrated my parents 70th birthdays there with the whole family, 14 of us in total. It was busy but fun.

Back in Norway, looking forward to actually wearing the damn jeans again [emoji1]
