Saw Annihilation this evening with the Mrs. I thought it was a great film with the last 20 minutes elevated through superb visuals and an ambient techno inspired soundtrack  😎 However, Jules felt it was a bit slow at the start but felt engaged in the second half. Interesting / unusual story . . .

I'm looking forward to that too. Hear reports that it should be seen on a big set up as it's cinematic stuff.

Tried watching Pacific Rim lastnite with my boy and that was a complete and utter fail  😢 I assumed that because he enjoyed Thor Ragnarok he would also enjoy a bunch of giant robots bashing kaiju ass. Wrong. Not only was it too long for him but I think the fact that a lot of the Jaeger/Kaiju fights didn't happen as often as my boy would've liked he lost interest.

I also tried to get him to watch Batman vs Superman lastnite and he fell asleep 30 minutes into the movie. Again, too long and no point of reference for him to understand the context of what was going on. I tried explaining the Bruce Wayne dream sequence in the beginning but he just couldn't get it. He seemed intrigued by the Wonder Woman movie so maybe i'll try giving that a go next.

I thought this was ok, but not the 'best vampire movie ever' as advertised on the cd case. It didn't help that the version I had was an English dub instead of in Swedish. I read the novel which I thought was better. There was more backstory than what was portrayed in the movie. Don't know if I want to bother with the Matt Reeves remake.

I watched Annihilation last night and as @den1mhead said, great visuals at the end but that was really about it for me.

Watched Coco the other night with my boy and thought it was very good. My son thought it was scary at first but afterwards when I explained to him the importance of family and honoring them (after they've died) it made him cry.

Agreed. Although, I tend to think most Pixar films are pretty good. Coco kinda reminded me a little of some of the stuff Miyazaki has put out – a good story that typically creates an emotional response. Even though parts of Coco were sad there were other parts that were uplifting and positive.

Story was good, animation was amazing, the Dia De Los Muertos and Mexican culture as a whole was represented accurately (to the best of my knowledge anyways).  It's a very rich, strong, vibrant culture that doesn't get represented too often in mainstream media and Pixar nailed it.

I went into it with very low expectations and was pleasantly surprised at the end. Not a great movie but, not a total waste of time, either.

The latter would be "Murder on the Orient Express", the remake by Kenneth Branagh?

If so, may I recommend the original 1974 film by Sidney Lumet, with Albert Finney as Hercule Poirot? Truer to the book, the Poirot character (much!), and overall so much better!
