We’ve got a fair bit of “value engineering” to do and the finished design probably won’t have a cantilevered deck as shown. I’m told that the required steel beams are quite expensive which would surely push that feature well outside our budget. We’ll most likely set steel columns to support the weight of the deck which I’ll probably wrap with some sort of cattle panel to provide structure for living walls which I’ll plant with climbing jasmine or clematis.
Here’s a great example of a beautifully executed cantilever:

This house is a few miles from me. I’m insanely jealous of the house and the car collection!

In fairness to our builder, @Appfaff, we took a leisurely approach to the whole process. I'm not going to blame him for how long it took to get to pouring a foundation. He assures us things will proceed with more urgency from here on. We'll see how it looks in four months or so.

@Chris - makes sense - you were talking about it in November, so that’s what got me thinking…

@Clint_D, in theory, we have everything picked out- we haven't received final numbers for all it. I'm sure there will be some downgrading at that point. Julie's picked it all, and as well as I can remember, it's sort of mid-century modern-ish overall for the decor, with random blitzes of bright colors.
I'm sure it will be cool when it's done. Well, I hope so, at least…

Still needs some work, but starting to look like a house.
