      Thanks Neph!

I haven't finished reading the 888-NT thread, so forgive me if the questions below were answered there.  I'm still working on it 😃

I noticed in the IHUK instructions these lines:

Our UHR jeans are designed to be "shrink to fit", so after washing or soaking a couple of times they will shrink to tag size

      and

When you get your jeans, soak them in a bathtub or large sink of cold water for a few hours. Then turn them inside-out and wash them in a washing machine* at no hotter than 30 degrees C (circa 90 degrees F)

So if I follow those instructions, cold soak, then hot wash, should I perform an additional hot soak or hot wash?  Are those instructions the bare minimum and additional hot soaks optional?  And, assuming people do perform additional hot soaks, should it be a soak or does it need to be a wash like in the initial instructions?

      Thanks again!

The soak is to embed the stitching. The denim is entirely untreated after weaving and quite abrasive. It can damage the stitching with movement unless it is soaked.

The soak and the wash together remove shrinkage. How much depends on the temperature of the water and the amount of agitation. This is why a wash is used as well as a soak. It’s the movement during the wash that encourages the cotton fibres to take in water. They then contract upon drying.

When that is done you’re good to go and how you wash/soak after that is entirely up to you. Subsequent soaks/washes can result in incremental shrinkage but that’s only because not all the shrinkage came out first time.

If you’re referring to the eternal “Should I wash my jeans?” discussion, that is for another thread (but you should [emoji1]).

Thanks, Neph, you're awesome!  And thanks for linking to the 888-NT thread…it's like reading a novel that I can't put down 😃

Let me just bounce my sizing thoughts off you guys real quick, then I'll shut up 🙂

I'm looking for a 32" waist and about a 12.5" thigh.  So I'm leaning towards a size 32, which, pre-soak, measures 32.5 in the waist and 13 in the thigh.  Based on the reading materials, a soak and hot wash could take that down to as much as 31.5 in the waist and about a 12.5 in the thigh.  Is that right?  But then by wearing it the waist will stretch back out to fit to my waist at around 32?

          Thanks!

I think you will get back to 32 for sure…. and then it will stretch more. I actually wish I had sized down even further in my 888NT @Megatron1505 said something like this  “ you’ll be worried that you made a mistake choosing the smaller size and then after 3 weeks of wearing you’ll Wish you went even smaller” or something like that… but the measurement numbers gotta work of course. The IH crew will get u any measurements you need. They are the best.

                Maybe so. Maybe not

Yeah, I'm leaning toward that 32…I'm a bit concerned about the front/rear rise, but the fit pics in the 888-NT threads look great.

At what point does the inseam stop shrinking?  I'm definitely going to want to hem these but I don't know how many soaks/washes they should go through before I can assume the inseam won't budge again.

For what it's worth, it took 3 washes before my 888NTs stopped shrinking. I lost 2 inches and some change in the inseam in total. I should have had the IHUK team leave 0,5 or maybe even 1 inch more to account for all that shrinkage. I don't cuff these unless i intentionally want a cropped, high water look.

If you leave 2,5 inches for shrinkage you should be fine!

That's a great tip, thanks!  I'm pretty sure that I'll pull the trigger on these soon. Been reading the threads off and on all day 🙂
