My folks have one of the fancy side mounted rollers and it is night and day much quieter and cleaner they appear. Of course, our builder could have cared less about anything other than handing over the keys as fast as they could…

Hmmm, sounds like I have research to do on openers.  In theory, we'll be in the market for one in 4-5 months.

Our old place had a detached garage and the opener was still loud enough to hear inside the house.

Good move Chris. Find a quiet one if you can… when I was growing up a loud garage door opener was the herald of my parents coming home. Which meant I was able to hide the various things that needed hiding before they got inside the house. God bless that damn opener.
