You and me both. I've been a bag-whore since earning my Koolaid man hip bag with Koolaid points back in the 80s. However, I've slowed down because I can't stand owning too much stuff (my bags are already stored like Babushka dolls). I'm actually culling the herd right now…

Imo would look better with some of the Bagjack pouches, the HNTR pouch springs to mind but only because of the colour. Aoku also do some cool looking ones that are of a similar aesthetic.

I notice that a lot of traditionally "tactical" brands are moving towards not using MOLLE on their packs to avoid the mall ninja look. I think people in that space are really tired of the MOLLE look. I personally don't own anything with visible MOLLE except my chest rig and plate carrier.

"Nice backpack, what do you do for a living?"
"I'm a travel agent, but it's high speed low drag"

I can understand why people would want to move away from MOLLE, but it seems like we're going to lose some interchangeability and customizability, which is a shame.

I've had packs with MOLLE for over a decade, and I've used MOLLE pouches, but at the end of the day, unless I need quick access to something like an IFAK, I prefer to use just the pouches that are internal to the pack.

The tactical style packs always look as though they're trying too hard in a civilian context. But I think that setting up MOLLE rigs lends itself to overthinking EDC, and over-organising bags.

In my opinion, the best rucksack has a single main compartment, minimal internal organisation, no laptop sleeve, and a single internal or external pocket (e.g. on or under the lid) to keep small items in. Anything more than this adds weight, and I never use the half a dozen pen or card slots that makers insist on putting in!

If you want internal organisation, find a set of packing cubes that fit in the pack, and use those instead. 🙂

@David_pll my sister likes the Millican packs a lot. The Wainwright looks really good.

You might also want to take a look at Trakke. They seem to change their range around a bit, but they often have a rolltop rucksack in it.

MOLLE is surprisingly heavy too. I handled a piece of a piece of equipment with MOLLE and an identical piece of equipment that was slick, and the weight difference is noticeable.

New gig which will require more frequent travel again so looked for a lightweight, durable, minimalist work pack. Landed on the Nomin 2.0. Not cheap but not disappointed either. Will last a while and get used/abused.

I used to travel for work a lot and my wife is on the road for about 23 weeks a year. We've both found that a minimalist pack is the best way to go. The more pockets and stuff you have the more opportunities you have to have a pocket wear through. Plus the more pockets you have the more weight you add.

@DougNg I'm guessing that it's the very expensive and equally lovely Arc'teryx Veilance Nomin.

Carryology reviewed version 1.0 over two years, and was smitten despite the price. Urbancarry also has a review, in which they give it grail status.

I quite like the look of the Seque tote, which is a simpler bag than the Nomin. I wish that they made it with a set of backpack straps, though.

The Outlier Ultrahigh Rolltop and Quadzip have a similar aesthetic, but are more minimalist. I suspect that the Nomin will be tougher.

Urbancarry, Everyday Carry, and Carryology have reviewed various versions of these packs.

I stumbled across this backpack on Farfetch the other day, but it was expensive, and has now sold out. But it's popped up on sale elsewhere, and it's quite tempting.

That said, something like the Lotuff Leather Duffle Backpack or a Frank Clegg backpack will probably be better made.

The Nomin has been on my list for a while. A Visvim beat it last time but I might have to get one when they release the fall version.
Anyway, here is the new SDR dyneema tote:
