It gets better after the first week

The first seven days, it probably would have been wise to institutionalize me

I know violence is not the answer, I got it wrong on purpose

Hang in there G, I really feel bad for Madame Buttonfly & your Pappi.  You are difficult enough as it is.  I won't pm you with any of my questions till you pass seven days smoke free, by that time the edge should be off a little bit.

Thanks.  Madame Buttonfly also gave up, but she was more of a social (i.e. with a drink) smoker.  I, on the otherhand,  was a proper smoker, so we are in ths together, but she is getting pissed off with my tetchiness…..........

Don´t know if that helps, but when I did quit for a year I used a simple trick..

always had one cigarette with me - and I kept telling myself if I really needed to smoke - I could.

              We can do anything

I quit smoking in 1996 (and have only had 4 or 5 cigarrettes after that, of which the last one was in 2005 or so). It will get easier with time but I still had urges a couple of years ago. In fact, dreamt about smoking last night (really stressed out from work at the moment)…

Smoking doesn't fit my self image anymore so I doubt I'll ever start again but I do consider myself a smoke-a-holic for life.

Quitting has easily been the best decision I have made so far in my life. A big thumbs up to all quitters!

                  AIAN HA-TO!

This is precisely why I'm sticking with the ecig at a low dose of nicotine. I've quit before and then come back to smoking when I'm stressed. I've kind of given up the idea of being a true "non smoker"

Idem G. Last time I started again (after my third time stopping) I thought i'd have one with a beer now and again…Problem was I started to want a beer everyday! It's a slippery slope that we forget all too easily. Once a smoker always a smoker...just like an alcoholic. We can't do the occasional one now and again...and more's the pity 😞

Hi all I've not smoked for 42 days and trying to get colleagues here to quit, hard task. Got a pop up message from a work colleague saying "You know when your giving up smoking and you get that horrible tight feeling in your chest where you feel like if you dont have a fag you will end up losing it and punching someone… what do you do??  My reply "I am so happy you are giving up, u can now join my smokers annonymous  club, You can call all smokers, "pussies" coz they stink. The non smokers club every Friday, we all stand up individually and say, my name is Skipman_____ and I'm a stinking breath smelling, clothes stink all the time smoker. The group will then say Hi Skipman and clap. Everyone says it, then we each have a chance to tell some stories about when you used to smoke, when it is my turn I say Hi, my name is Skipman and I havent smoked for 42 days 16 hours and 32 seconds, everyone will clap and say well done Skipman. Then I will give one of my smoking experiences like when I was driving, took a drag, and the tip fell on my lap, burnt through my trousers and scarred my willy, went to hospital where they would not treat it because it was "smoking related".so I had to tell my wife that I was smoking again and suffered the pain for weeks. I couldn't wee properly it was so embarrising.  LOL She said "did it really happen" So here starts the SA. Smokers annonymous and we can all give our experiences and help those poor unfortunate smokers wanting to quit.  Skipman
