This is my Kanreki present to myself….....a bit of diving and some fishing.....
It's a very long story, but the short version is....
Giles meets great South African (Chad) when fishing in Oman. Form firm friendship.
Chad tells Giles he is building an eco fishing lodge on a remote island in Fiji (it's called Yacata - Google it).
Giles says, oh great I'll come and spend my 60th there.
Chad says, won't be finished. Then in off hand way says "we're looking for investors"
Giles spends days working out how to broach subject of investing in a mad adventure with Paula. Plucks up courage and blurts it out.
Paula says "fuck yeah".
Giles picks himself up off the floor.
We invest.
We are in Fiji.
Lodge not built.
Probably end up sleeping on beach.
Neither of us has ever been so excited about something in our lives.....You might be the coolest guy I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. Seriously.
IT guy emails a handful of Japanese denim craftsmen and the one that responds is Haraki-San. IHUK is born and you get involved with and grow IMHO the best clothing brand on the planet. The brand evolves and becomes what it is today…full of unlimited potential.
About a decade down the road, through happenstance, you get involved with a fucking Fiji fishing lodge...just, wow!

Quoted for the truth. Gives me hope for the rest of my life too. It all seems risky, but also the good kind of crazy risk that you may as well as you only live once kind of thing. Kudos to you for living good sir!

Lost 5 kilograms in 5 weeks. On a diet of beer, wine, cognac and cheese.
Weird. I used the exact same diet and I gained five kilos. Only instead of wine, I had Red Bull, instead of cognac I had pizza, and instead of cheese, I had cheeseburgers.

Great story and after meeting G and Paula, the couple of times that I have, why I felt compelled to help celebrate Giles' Kanreki.
