The new F150 with the 10 speed is one slick ride. I prefer NA engines, but the Ecoboost (3.5) is a torque monster and super spirited to drive. The 10 speed is actually a huge improvement IMHO based on driving them both.

For snow you will without a doubt want a 4x4 model- fords aluminum bed means less weight over rear axel without load.

If snow isn't an issue, a RWD truck can be seriously fun [emoji12]

I'm not an American motors guy, but Ford is killing it lately with their models the last couple years. Now if they would just offer the fusion wagon with AWD and three pedals in the US, I'd have a blue badge in the garage.

Sorry for the detail, back to rants 🙂

Had a RWD F150 that was a pig in snow but ran forever It was an '86 that had 250k+ when I sold it. It's the only thing I've driven where I didn't feel like I was wedged into a box.
Toyota makes a good small truck, the 4 with turbo. I bought trucks because they were the least expensive drive on the market the  small Toyota with all bells and whistles is over 36k 😢  😠 that qualifies as a rant. Chevy and Ford 8's north of 40k with goodies. for a fuckin truck.

Those are my principles, and if you don't like them…
        Well, I have others.

Thx. I know nothing about trucks other than they would prove useful during harsh winters and for moving stuff around.

Well what are you looking at?  What are you thinking of getting?

Not in the market for one right now, just something that's on my wishlist. Trucks tend to be cost prohibitive and for practical purposes it's not something I need. I do like F150's though and the Dodge Ram 1500

40k?  That's not bad.  I know guys driving pickups that stickered for over 60k. Texans love trucks, no matter how stupidly expensive.  Or how little they'll be used as intended…

I will completely disagree with this.  I've been in the fleet maintenance biz for 21 years and if you properly maintain a Ford (or Chevy for that matter) they will last a very long time.  With the accounts that we have Fords are by far the most popular make among construction fleets, with Chevy being the second.  There are Fords that we maintain that have 350,000 plus on their engines, gas engines.

Of course there are issues with certain engines and that can be said for both Ford and Chevy.  For example the 5.4L 3 valve that Ford ran for a while had issues with their timing chain tensioners going bad which would then destroy the timing chain guides over time.  Also issues with the cam phasers.  Chevy's had oil pump issues in some of their 6.0's, motor mounts wear out very quick, oil pressure sending units always go bad, water pumps, AC blower motor resistors….Point is that each make will have their unique problems.

One thing I can say regarding construction fleets, nobody..and I mean nobody uses Dodge in the Phoenix area.

What @louisbosco hasn't mentioned is that once an imported car's price goes over about $60K, the luxury car tax kicks in, and that adds 30% to the cost over that threshold. For a $100K truck, that'd be $10K extra. For something like a Ferrari (around $400K here), it's nearly $100K.

Then you've got the fact that Australia is a long way from anywhere, so shipping costs are factored in, and design rules (which are being phased out) specific to the local market. Manufacturers tend to price gouge, and cars are often supplied with all the options, in order to bump up the sticker price.

That said, the luxury car tax might be on the way out. Australia and Europe have a free trade agreement in the pipeline, and as it counts as an extra tariff, it could be repealed shortly as a part of the negotiations.
