I'm catching up… I now own a 2012 cell phone!.. Namely the HTC One S. Beautiful bit of kit, and smarter than I am (which isn't saying much but still)...

Had to use AirDroid to transfer files though, wouldn't connect through the PC...  😞

Two tins and a bit of string would be smarter that you…. 🙂 🙂 🙂

Yeah I'm not telling you the story of how I washed my whipcord 816s with my GATs and how I had to wash my whips two more times afterwards cause they had white specs/ dust all over them (inside and out)…  😶

To everyone who had the pleasure (?) to deal with both: do you prefer Android or iOS?

That's how I feel about iOS.  Objectively, there's probably not a huge difference, just personal preference as to which is "better".

I think iOS is more intuitive to folks who just want to mash buttons. During my brief foray into Android, it seemed like  it could be really great if you wanted to take the time to learn it, and customize it for yourself. I am just not a patient gadget person. I want to be able to take it out of the box, and feel like I can already do most things without any effort.

I have an android and it sucks. Mine's on the verge of dying and there are times when I want to chuck it at the wall and smash it into a million pieces. the iphone was far better imo

One year I was in Val d Isere for New Year's eve.  I was in one of the hotel bars and everyone, and I mean everyone, except me, was on their iPhone around midnight.  I vowed at that point, never to join that club.  I got an Android (can't even remember which) instead.  Within 6 months I had a iPhone…..

Nokia have reintroduced the 3310, which would be another option for those seeking a simple phone.

As for Android, my advice would always be to go for one of the Google handsets, although my well obsolete Nexus 5X has been terrible. They've just announced the Pixel 2 and 2 XL, and I'm tempted to get one of them.

The trouble with Android is that most companies customise the OS, which tends to make it harder to use and slower. They're also somewhat tardy with updates. If you look at the Android developer dashboard, most devices are running two or more year old versions. This means users are missing out on security updates and the latest features.

Motorola tend to be pretty good with updates, and Google has just bought a chunk of HTC's handset business, so they'll probably be more up to date with things in the future too.

Has the first iPhone, never went back. Android ever since, well after blackberry was buried. I Loved my physical qwerty keyboards. I recently had the BBC key one, pretty amazing phone.

I'm typing on my HTC U11 which is a sublime phone and my LG V30 is cling Monday. Then my U11 will be returned/refunded to Amazon. The LG v30 is the best phone to come out in a while….. And for a while

My iPhone 4 has not outlived its usefulness at all… However, every single app I try to use says I need to run at least OS 9 😞 The latest version I can run is 7.1.2.

This means I need to buy a new phone...

Checked the apple store and the iPhone se is closest in size. Probably need to check the stock situation at the Mcr store before I blindly turn up...

Have I mentioned at all how much I'm growing to hate this constant cycle of tech updates due to enforced obsoleting?

And how the everliving [expletive] is 'obsoleting' a word but 'obsoletion' isn't??

Sorry this turned into an unexpected rant at the end.
