Nice @cole. I have the same bag and it's super nice but is also pretty heavy even empty.

Yes, it is heavy. I have the feeling that this backpack  weights as much empty as the backpack of my wife fully loaded. But in its defence I must say even when it is loaded it never feels heavy when worn. On the other hand I have to admit I never made any long hikes with it.

I know that search/struggle. Worth the time to find the right make/model indeed!

After seeing Gile's Stormfront bag, I thought I'd treat myself to one of there roll top backpacks.

I'm no fisherman, so it will be used on the bike.

                Bright and waterproof…perfect.

I've got the previous version of that too.  It is amazing never lets a drop of water in and is so waterproof, it can be used as a flotation aid, and a pillow when needed…..

That older model seems a better design. Getting into the inside pocket is a bit of a pain on the new.

Interesting that the same amount of research yielded such radically different results.

I really wanted this, but could not justify the premium (and anyway, I have the grey waterproof one)….......well, not this week....

Looking for a new bag and the Millican Duffle (https://www.homeofmillican.com/products/the-mavericks-miles-the-duffle-bag-28l-slate) caught my eye. I need it to be a real allrounder; work, commuting (bike and train) and weekend travels. Something substantial that can take a beating. Millican - Yay or Nay? Other recommendations within the same price range (150-200 USD)? Easy to use and not too "technical". Been rocking the IHE-01 for seven years now.

My sister is a big fan of the Millican bags, so I don't think that you'll have any problems with it.

If you're looking at alternatives, I really like the Nigel Cabourn Hand Cannon. It's not up on their website, but Pickings and Parry have product details. At $400 (US), it is a lot more expensive than the Millican alternative. I prefer it in grey, and really want one.

Velomacchi offer the Hybrid Duffle Pack, which has the same price point as the Cabourn. It's been designed for use on a motorcycle, useful if you ride.

At a cheaper price point, there's the Low Alpine AT Kit Bag. I took a look at these before I flew back to the UK, and was very tempted. A local shop back in the UK had them on sale, and I should have grabbed one.

I've taken a look at the Mission Workshop bags, and they're good. The Transit Duffle has a backpack harness accessory, but I'm not convinced that it'll carry well. The bag sits with the base against the back, and sticks out a fair way, which doesn't look that stable or comfortable. Prices start at $245.

And if you want to spend far too much, I'm a bit in love with the Lotuff Duffle Backpack. Shame it costs $1200…

Lastly, Tom Bihn do a number of convertible travel bags, which might work for you.

Alternatively there are a number of convertible tote bags around. I like the SSCY Tack, though I'm not sure how well they'll carry. Price is $199.

Chapman bags did a nice one (you can still find them on Amazon Japan in various colours and prices), Cabourn have a leather and canvas one coming, and Kletterwerks / Mystery Ranch offer them.
