    @superfuzz:

Are these too hot for summer?

I wore mine regularly this summer in Vermont.

What makes those work pants rather than chinos? Fabric weight?

Chino is a fabric, not a style of pant.  Pants made out of Chino cloth tend to get referred to as Chino's:

These arrived today. And when I put them on I promptly filled out the form for they grey ones. These pants are great, I really like the whipcord fabric.

This stuff just sells itself, doesn't it?

Glad you like them.  Looking forward to the greys as well.

I strongly prefer button over zipper fly and that is the only reason I refrain from these. Any reason for keeping these zipper-only?

              The journey is the objective.

H likes putting them in work pants…..I've never tried to dissuade him....

Without meaning to seem facetious, because they are work pants. Pretty much all IH work pants have zippers.

I'm fairly certain that pretty much all work pants in general have zippers.

I don't suppose IH has any plans on making a more tapered cut of the 816, like closer to the 555 or 777? I really want to try out these work pants but the current measurements would make them incredibly baggy on my frame. I'm assuming they're deliberately cut this way to provide ease of movement while working.

The 'button over zipper' preference in my case isn't style driven, it is purely functional. As I age, 53 now, I find I sometimes leave my fly unzipped and it annoys me inmensely. This never happened before the last 10 or so years. Maybe it is correlated with belly expansion as it now doesn't permit an unobstructed view of my fly.

I've discovered that button fly bottoms are absent-minded proof! As a bonus, they look nicer to me.
Maybe I'm not the only one who would benefit from a work pant with button fly?  Just a thought.
As for me, I'm gradually working through my closet and replacing every zip bottom for a button one!

                          The journey is the objective.

And that's what they do. 555 or 777 cut is not good to work in.

those are nice and the fit looks better. Was hoping it was whipcord though  😞

As someone who benefits from a taper on jeans I love all my work pants and cargo pants and find that the wide, straight legs are a pleasant variation in style.

For what it's worth I find the thigh on chinos and whipcords to fit much slimmer than an equivalent measurement in denim. I have four chinos and whipcord and I find I like a half inch or more  bigger thigh in them than I like on my denim pants. Fit is subjective, but unless you wear skinny jeans(which a lot of people do) I don't think these will be baggy if they fit without too much extra room in the waist. At least in my experience.

I'm definitely with you on this.  My Olive 816's are easily my most fitted pair in the top block.  They are definitely not a baggy fit, just a straight leg.
