you know my thoughts. As I said, got check out tudor and rolex in person at the same time/day. I think you'll find you want a Rolex. Such an enabler  ::), but yeah, think you'll find it's worth it - by far.

and worst case, sell it for the same price you paid and buy a tudor you'll lose nothing on a rolex 2nd hand, hell it may even go up in the time you've held it!

I agree with @Snowy here. I really like what Tudor is doing, but their watches don't feel as well made as a Rolex.

But I'd suggest going down to a local watch dealer (or ten), and seeing what you like. I find most Rolex watches a bit boring, except for the new Air King. I'd rather buy something that I want, rather than choosing a piece based on resale value.

I have never ever bought anything with any view to its resale value, I buy shit I like (homes included), if when I come to sell it, it's worth more than I paid for it, that's a bonus.  Life's to short to add another layer of complexity to the buying, owning, loving process…..

I'm the same. I buy it because I love it. If it increases in value that is just a bonus.

still figuring it out...the more i look at the rolex watches, the more they grow on me and the more i like them...damn ^^

thanks again for the honest words guys...you're totally right. go with what you like/love instead of buying something just because the resell price is gonna be insane. cuz if you do, you (normally) don't care about reselling 😉

Been collecting watches for a long time. While my friends were buying expensive cars, I bought watches.

Here's my .02 buy what you like, and what sings to you. If you can't afford what you like at the moment…save until you can purchase it. Doubtful you are going to lose or make a profit on Rolex, Panerai or IWC et al. If you buy what you love, resale shouldn't be a factor...especially if you are buying in the second hand market.

Speaking of which, if you're looking at the second hand market, I'd also suggest timezone.com and be sure to ask the seller for references. In other words, don't buy the watch, but buy the seller…I hope that makes sense.

FWIW I have a few Rolex, and a single Tudor. I'd put the Tudor on par with anything from Rolex or even from the other manufacturers I have (within reason of course).

                        Most of all have fun!

But be warned your significant other may want one or two of her own 🙂

@SimonQ. nice Sea Dweller. Fantastic watch (16660), and not a pedestrian Rolex by any stretch. In fact, most people don't even recognize it as such…which is great.

if you're looking into buying for "resell prices", rolex and patek are pretty much the only 2 that can make that happen. daytonas have been the hype for resell in terms of a rolex but i'd never fancy them all this time. just somehow, i didn't really like it.. chances are when you've been looking at watches, depending on whether they have value or not, you already know in your heart the model that you want and you just pretty much have to try it on to see how it feels before convincing yourself.

the 116710LN i got for my 21st. and i already know deep down that i want a 1675 when i hit 30. anything else before is probably just a lust..

The Helson Shark Diver is a fun watch. Unfortunately, mine doesn't get the wrist time it deserves. I opted to have mine made with a green dial. The indices are slathered on with super luminova and boy do they glow.

I had Greg Stevens make me a custom strap, and rather than putting a bronze buckle on it he flame broiled a steel one.

Comes with some cool packaging too.

As a tip don't force patina. Let it age and you will get a great colour and surface that will look great.

Thanks for the feedback!  That was my initial plan almost 2yrs ago, and while I'm not displeased with the mellowing it has undergone I was hoping for more of a metamorphosis.  This IG post recently swayed me:  https://www.instagram.com/p/BTESAp6l6Cr/

There are endless ways to force a patina @Dishelveled. Just dropping it in salt water will do the trick as will using Liver of sulphur. An easy way to clean it up afterwards is using ketchup, but if you do be sure to move the bezel otherwise it will stick, and that wouldn't be good!

When I bought my watch I'd wanted to get the Panerai "bronzino" and was bummed that they made it in a 47mm which is too big for my wrist. Here's a pic of a forced patina:
