@SimonQ. nice Sea Dweller. Fantastic watch (16660), and not a pedestrian Rolex by any stretch. In fact, most people don't even recognize it as such…which is great.

      Mine says hola...

if you're looking into buying for "resell prices", rolex and patek are pretty much the only 2 that can make that happen. daytonas have been the hype for resell in terms of a rolex but i'd never fancy them all this time. just somehow, i didn't really like it.. chances are when you've been looking at watches, depending on whether they have value or not, you already know in your heart the model that you want and you just pretty much have to try it on to see how it feels before convincing yourself.

the 116710LN i got for my 21st. and i already know deep down that i want a 1675 when i hit 30. anything else before is probably just a lust..

The Helson Shark Diver is a fun watch. Unfortunately, mine doesn't get the wrist time it deserves. I opted to have mine made with a green dial. The indices are slathered on with super luminova and boy do they glow.

I had Greg Stevens make me a custom strap, and rather than putting a bronze buckle on it he flame broiled a steel one.

Comes with some cool packaging too.

They were sold out of the green when I grabed mine 2yrs ago or we'd be matching.  Great strap too.  Was thinking of forcing a patina with vinegar vapors–we'll see if I get around to it.

As a tip don't force patina. Let it age and you will get a great colour and surface that will look great.

Thanks for the feedback!  That was my initial plan almost 2yrs ago, and while I'm not displeased with the mellowing it has undergone I was hoping for more of a metamorphosis.  This IG post recently swayed me:  https://www.instagram.com/p/BTESAp6l6Cr/

We'll see, and worst case I can always polish back to shiny…

                      Cheers!

There are endless ways to force a patina @Dishelveled. Just dropping it in salt water will do the trick as will using Liver of sulphur. An easy way to clean it up afterwards is using ketchup, but if you do be sure to move the bezel otherwise it will stick, and that wouldn't be good!

When I bought my watch I'd wanted to get the Panerai "bronzino" and was bummed that they made it in a 47mm which is too big for my wrist. Here's a pic of a forced patina:

That Pan is something else, looks like they picked it off the ocean floor!  But yeah 47mm is incompatible with my skinny wrists :o

Hell this 42mm is pushing my boundaries, lol, but I like its proportions better than their 40mm versions.

Monochrome Watches has an interview with Julien Tornare, the new CEO of Zenith, and he mentions a project that the company is working on.

                              • The development is based on the works of mathematicians (i.e. not watchmakers)

                              • It’s a new escapement that is likely to be constant force, amagnetic and athermic

                              • The oscillator is made of silicon, it is large (occupying the whole watch face) and vibrating at 15 Hz

                              • Accuracy would be within a range of 2 seconds over 50 hours

                              • Watches will be certified with the Besançon Observatory

So a radical, high-beat movement with a focus on chronometry? As a fan of the LUC 8HF and Breguet 7727, this is right up my street!

I've no idea when we'll see anything, but the details suggest that the project is a fair way along, so it could be shown off at Baselworld next year.
